L'Oreal Paris Color Rich L'Extraordinaire Matte V109 Jardin Pamplemousse Packaging

First off, the gold-colored packaging looks really classy, making it a cut above the rest of liquid lipsticks that have swarmed the market. It's an eye candy. Then you go over to the top and you see an engraved L'Oreal logo; it's like staring into something really special. Then down to the body, you see the color of the liquid lipstick itself, and it goes down to the bottom, where the shade name and other details are written.

I'll have to tell you though that when I saw this for the first time and I was so excited to try it on my lip, I tried so hard to pull the cap to open it. Silly me.

Applicator

Here's a photo of the applicator because I'm having a hard time trying to describe it, you can just check it out yourself. :) It's unlike the doe foot applicator of the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream or the wand applicator of liquid concealers. It looks like a small tongue. It's bendable and that tip can help you go through those corners of your lips.

L'Oreal Paris Color Rich L'Extraordinaire Matte V109 Jardin Pamplemousse Swatch

On the tube, it looks too orangey but when swatched it is coral. BTW my friends, if you haven't Googled it already, Pamplemousse is French for grapefruit, and you can well imagine the meat of a grapefruit to be pinkish-orangey in color and I think it's an apt description of the shade.

The color scared me when I first saw it. It just looked too bright and it's not something I'd normally wear. When I put it on my lips, it didn't look right either. Instead of a brightening effect, my skin looked dark and the color just clashed with my skin tone. It also has a tendency to make your teeth look yellowish. Another thing that I don't like about this lippie is the strong fragrance. I think it's fruity but it really is too strong for me. It's not like anything I've smelled before so I really can't describe it but it really gives me an instant headache. It nearly made me puke the first time I had it. I was having premenstrual syndrome at that time and my sense of smell was being more sensitive than the usual.

By then I really regretted ever getting this.

L'Oreal Paris Color Rich L'Extraordinaire Matte V109 Jardin Pamplemousse In Action

After the PMS episode and when my nose wasn't so sensitive, I decided to give it another shot. So the formula does feel cushiony soft on the lips. This time though, instead of slathering a generous amount of product (like I would a NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream), I decided to put a small amount and then I used my fingers to blot it out and kind of pressed it into my lips. It looked washed out and subtle on my lips but at least it looked so much better than the last time I applied it.

To Sum Up
There are about ten different color options of this lippie. I'm still wondering why I picked this coral shade. I guess it looked good on the swatches. That's another peril of buying cosmetics online. If I picked one pinkish or berry-ish I could be singing a different tune. Well, at least I was able to "fix" it to suit my skin tone. However, I'm still not a big fan of its scent. Sorry, L'Oreal. :)

I think this color would be more flattering on fair-skinned ladies.

Prep your puckers and make sure they are smooth because even if it feels cushiony on the lips, it can still accentuate the dry patches. It also transfers, which is something that I expect when a matte lippie claims that it is moisturizing. Staying power is also not that long since it transfers.

In the end, I learned my lesson. I've been on a buying ban on lip products as of this moment since I want to consume all of them by the end of this year. That being said, I'll be making the most out of this product. I think I'll avoid the lip creams next time and I'll just grab a real red lipstick from L'Oreal.

Have you tried this one yet? Care to share your thoughts about it?

A quick chit-chat before I proceed to the sneak peek. I think it's been nearly four years since I joined the Sample Room Family. That was in 2013 and I'd just started this blog out. Just for fun, I Googled a "site that offers free product samples for testing in the Philippines" and the Sample Room site came out. I was so surprised because I didn't know that such a "try before you buy" mechanism actually existed in our country. After checking different feedbacks about Sample Room, I signed up and placed my very first order. I was so excited when I beheld the little brown paper bag that contained the first product that I sampled from Sample Room.

Four years and dozens of products ordered later, I am very much happy that I made that decision to sign up for a Sample Room account. Not only did it allow me to get familiar with different brands and products, it has also empowered me as a consumer. I've become more sensitive about what I actually want and what would work for me. That said, I don't easily get swayed by the latest commercial or the newest endorser of any product. Sample Room gave me that power to find out myself.

I've really lost track if how many times I've ordered from Sample Room, so I just tagged this post as my first haul for the year 2017. Let's check out the deets after the jump.

Burt's Bees Soap Bark & Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream

"Go Deep.
Our rich natural cleansing cream with Soap Bark deeply cleanses, removing dirt, excess oil and make- up.
Our best face wash for a deep clean is also formulated with Chamomile and Aloe to gently soften skin
With a hint of Menthol, known for its cooling and soothing properties
100% Natural"

With all the pollution and environmental stresses that we encounter these days, who doesn't want deep cleansing. That's exactly the reason why I picked this one from the Sample Room cabinet. I haven't tried this one out just yet; I've only gone as far sniffing it and feeling the texture of the cream. It really does smell like chamomile  with a hint of menthol so I'll bet this'll have a cooling effect on the face. I'll make a separate review post about this in the future.

Maxipeel Zero

"Maxi-Peel introduces Maxi-Peel Zero, the first micro exfoliant fluid with skin vitamins that gently cleanses and exfoliates every layer of your skin with ZERO REDNESS and ZERO PEELING. It lightens, smoothen and clears skin from superficial scars and blemishes."

This one I have actually tried and loved. I am well aware of the importance of exfoliation in keeping the skin  looking healthy; who wants to lug around a face full of dead skincells. But, I am also iffy about skin peeling and redness. Red looks lovely on the lips, not on the skin. When I saw this product on Sample Room I immediately knew that it's a must-try. After three uses I saw a difference on the texture of my skin; it felt softer and smoother.

A word of caution still: even if there are no outward signs of peeling, it still contains AHA which according to the label, increases you skin's sensitivity to the sun so wear SPF and stay away from the rays as much as you can.

Olay Skin Whitening Bar with Vitamin C

"Olay Skin Whitening Bar with Vitamin C has been specially designed with a Triple Whitening System that will help:
Reveal your natural white all over
Gently exfoliate your skin and wash away dead skin cells
Even out your skin tone to make it look clean and clear
Enjoy its cream lather and lasting fragrance that will leave your skin feeling smooth and moisturized.
Feel the difference from the first use!
Dermatologically and clinically tested formula."

I used his one straight out of the paper bag because I'd just ran out of a bath soap. What can I say? It has everything I'm looking for in a bath soap: gentle and mild and doesn't stingy on the skin; smells heavenly with a mild fragrant. It gives a creamy lather but washes off easily when you rinse off. No slippery feeling stays behind.

So there goes my first Sample Room haul for this year. It also came with an extra sachet of Head and Shoulder's in Pink  which smells uber good and feels fresh on the hair and scalp.

The very product that I ordered from Sample Room was the Shiseido Ibuki Eye Correcting Cream and it remains to be one of the most viewed posts in my blog. Funny coz I was still pretty much clueless about doing product reviews back then. But I guess I've improved over time. And that's what matters, ayt? :)

I hope you enjoyed this post.

Today's review is about these two makeup pots that I got from Suesh via BeautyMNL. If you don't already know, Suesh Cosmetics is a Pinoy brand that offers a wide range of makeup tools, for pros and beginners alike. The very first product that I bought Suesh is the 12 PC 'Blush' Brush Set which I purchased back in 2014. The brushes are still around and I still use them a lot.

So these pots are basically part of Suesh's CYOP or Choose/Create Your Own Palette; if you have your own magnetic palette or you can get empty palettes from Suesh and you can fill it with your own colors or shades of choice. Cool huh? They also have  shadow, blush, contour and lip pots. Ladies, you know the drill!

So, like any makeup junkee, I'm also in the quest for finding the perfect Concealer and Corrector to hide my dark circles. I think I read about these concealer pots at Project Vanity so I decided to grab some when I chanced upon Suesh products at BeautyMNL. Of course a yellow shade is a must for brightening the undereyes but I also needed a peachy-pink tone to counteract the darkness that's why I picked another one.

Packaging
Price: Php 50.00 from www.sueshcosmetics.com
The pots came with a transparent plastic containers so if you don't have magnetic palette, you can store them in their original packaging. However, there's something classy about having makeups in black packaging so when I saw the 1 Hole PVC Empty Magnetic Palette on the Suesh website, I just knew I had to grab them too. Moreover, I didn't have second thoughts because I knew they would fit perfectly since they come from the same brand. That's 36 mm across.

Swatches
Left: HD Cream Foundation// Right: Concealer
I honestly have no qualms about the texture and pigmentation of these babies. They are both very creamy and have good coverage even with just one layer. They also blend smoothly on to the skin. They both have a light sweet scent about them (a hint of coconut smell?) which is not bothersome for me.

You can see on the swatches that the peach-tone HD Cream Foundation seems to be a good match for my skintone but my hand is actually darker than my face so I'm not really using this as a foundation but rather just for color correcting in the undereye area. Moreover, my face is really oily so I steer clear of cream foundations. There's also no indication on its features about oil control properties so I'm not vouching on it either. Meanwhile, the Concealer swatch is very yellow but fret not, the color translates well on my baggies. Here, I've put them into action.

In Action
Feel free to admire the darkness... LOLS :)

1. Without Correctors or Concealers, just The Quick FX Eye Cream to prep the area.
2. Applied Yellow Concealer first on one eye to show the difference.
3. Applied Cream Foundation on the other to see which one is better as a Corrector. I think the Cream Foundation side looks better.
4. Topped the Concealer with Cream Foundie and put Concealer on top of Cream Foundation and I think the Cream Foundation-Concealer sequence looks better still.

5. Baking time to set the under-eye products. Five to 10 minutes, please. :)
6. Blended out the setting powder and voila! Bye bye dark circles

To Sum Up
Finding the right products and discovering the best way to put them really makes a huge difference  on your face. That is why I'm sticking to this procedure. It's not as time consuming as you think. I basically use my fingers during the application. Sometimes I use a concealer brush for application but for blending out, I think nothing can replicate the warmth of one's fingers which helps in seamlessly spreading out the products

Like I said earlier, the only problem that I have about these products is that their staying power is not so great. That is why, I really take time to bake so that they would be well set and stay all day with minimal touch ups needed.

Hope this review has been helpful. :)

Other products used:
Quick FX Eyelift Cream for prepping and (you guessed it right!) Nichido Final Powder in Ivory Glow
I bought these on a whim, as I am wont to do so whenever I see something new and shiny. When these landed on my lap, I found myself basically clueless about what I'll do with them. It didn't come with a box or a nice packaging to tell me the names or the uses of the brushes.

Not that I'm whining. I knew that I was buying an unbranded set of kabuki brushes. Even the seller at Shopee didn't have any description about the brushes so I did my homework. I went to trying each of them and boy did they feel so soft on my skin.

But ooops! They smelled faintly of adhesives so before I went to far, I decided to wash them first. No fallout; no fading colors whatsoever. I saw some strays but it was easily solved by a pair of scissors. Of course I wanted to post a review but I wasn't sure about the names so I put Google to work.

Would you actually believe that I found a branded but same-looking set of brushes? Yup! The only differences are the colors of the handles and the printed label on the handle. The ferrules and duo fiber bristles look similar. I can't say if the softness of the bristles are similar though but this unbranded set, which was touted as a 10-Piece Kabuki Brush on Shopee has really soft bristles and they don't feel scratchy on my skin.

When we get to the bottom of this post I'm going to show you which branded brushes look similar to this unbranded one that I got from Shopee.

Ladies, here's the rundown.

The Flat Top Brush
I think this one also goes by the name of Buffing Brush, which is ideal for "buffing" liquid foundation onto the skin, making the application more even.

The Tapered Brush
According to Google a tapered brush works great for applying powder products onto the cheekbones and temples with blush or bronzer. The tapered tip is also ideal for gently contouring the face. (www.sigmabeauty.com). I have tried using this tapered brush in outlining the contours on my cheekbones, jawline and forehead and I fell in love with this brush that I promised I'm not contouring again without using this. The length and the stiffness of the brush is just perfect for the job: not too stiff, not too soft either. With this, I am sure that the contouring lines I've drawn are even and come blending, my contours would be even in color too.

The Angled Contouring Brush/
The Round Blending Brush
Now, after using the Tapered Brush for drawing the contours, I use these alternately for blending. The bristles are uber-soft and dense.

The Powder Brush
The bristles are also soft but I prefer my powder brushes to have longer and fluffier bristles. I have other powder brushes so this could serve as a back up.

The Small Round Blending Face Brush/
The Small Angled Blending Face Brush
These are mini versions of the Angled and Round Blending Face Brushes and could serve various purposes in blending powder products. Since they are smaller, they can fit into the little corners of the face like around the nose or they eyes.

The Small Tapered Brush
This one is also just a smaller version of the aforementioned Tapered Brush. I can see how this one would be perfect in drawing contours on the nose area.

The Small Flat Top Brush/
The Small Angled Flat Top Brush
These are also smaller versions of the Angled and Flat Top Brushes and honestly I haven't used them that much since I'm having a brush overload. I used them to apply a little of highlighter on the sides of my face and on the nose bridge.

BTW, I'm really not kidding about the branded brushes that look similar to this set. It's from BH Cosmetics and here's a photo of it.
BH Cosmetics 10 Piece Sculpt And Blend Brush Set
I got this unbranded 10-Piece Kabuki Brush from Shopee, for Php 250.00 (no more than 6 USD) and honestly at this price point, for 10 pieces of brushes that are soft and non-scratchy, I think I have the good end of the deal.

I've been using these mostly for sculpting and contouring and I think I've improved a great deal in my game while using this.

"Oh So Special" Shade Names
My Take
So, I am not a beauty guru. I don't have multiple eyeshadow palettes at my disposal. So when I have one, it means that it's the one that I will be using until I hit the pan or it expires. The last eyeshadow palette that I owned was the BYS 8 Neutral Matte Palette. Like I said, I used it until I hit the pans, broke the plastic packaging and the shadows hardened and were starting to smell funny. By the time 2017 came, I knew I had to grab a new palette. The BYS palette was composed of mattes in neutral colors and I thought that if I grabbed a replacement palette I will go for one that has a combination of mattes and shimmers, in different hues. Neutrals are a practical, classic choice but I'm just a girl and I get bored too and shimmers and different colors are a perfect way to instantly change one's look.

I had my eyes on L'oreal's La Palette Nudes but it still came at Php 800.00 and I thought I could still find something more affordable. Maybelline's The Blushed Nudes looked pretty at Php 675.00 but the reviews were not so great. I stumbled upon Sleek Makeup at Zalora and I instantly got interested when I read good reviews about their eyeshadows. It was on the same price point with the MNY Blushed Nudes but to my surprise, I found a cheaper one at Shopee - just Php 550.00! Of course I was hesitant to buy but after reading great feedbacks about the Seller and the quality of the Sleek Eyeshadows, I took the risk. You can read about my first Shopee shopping experience here.

More deets.
Let's just say that the risk paid off. When the package arrived, the first thing I checked was the expiry date. We're still a long way from 2019, according to the tag, so thanks goodness for that. It's made in China and I have twelve months to consume it upon opening. Check out the names of eyeshadows below.

Details
Okay, I know the photo above is not great and it's kinda hard to figure out the shade so let's just check out the palette itself. There are twelve pans and this side here are on the lighter, pinkish sides.

Palette up close. Left to Right. Top: Bow, Organza, Ribbon//Bottom: Pamper, Gateau, The Mail
And on the darker, smokier side....
Palette Up close: Left to Right: Top: Gift Basket, Glitz, Celebrate// Bottom: Boxed, Wrapped Up, Noir
Shades + Description + Comments
Bow - It's a matte vanilla shade that I wished would show up more on the swatches. I use it mostly as base to take away the oiliness of my lids. It can also be used for highlighting the brow bone.
Organza - It's a shimmery rosy pink with beautiful color payoff. Texture is buttery and doesn't fallout. It doesn't look so pink on the swatch but it is pinkish in real life.
Ribbon - It's a matte pink that I don't really get to use very often. It has average pigmentation and powdery texture with minimal fallout.
Gift Basket - It's a shimmery brown with buttery texture and no fallout.
Glitz - It's a lovely shimmery gray-blue shade that is really glitzy in every way. Buttery texture, great color payoff and no fallout.
Celebrate - The shimmery plum! I have every reason to celebrate about this one. Quality is same as Glitz.
Pamper - It's a matte light pink that's as sheer in pigmentation as Bow and barely shows on the swatches. I've used this as a base for the other pink colors in this palette.
Gateau - Another TDF shade in this palette. It's a shimmery lilac with gold undertone. Same quality with the other shimmers.
The Mail - It's a matte peanut butter brownish color that I use mostly as base to take away the discoloration.
Boxed - This one's a matte chocolate brown which I use mostly for drawing my brows.
Wrapped Up - Another matte dark brown which I use for contouring my lids.
Noir - The matte black which I use as an eyeliner.

Overall, Bow and Pamper are my least faves because they barely show on my skin. Ribbon and The Mail are average on my list. The rest are hits. The shimmers and the darker colors are specially lovely.

Swatches + In Action
This photo of swatches are kinda washed out. In real life, the colors are really vivid with the exception of Bow and Pamper.

It's my one and only eye palette so I basically use this everyday when I go to the office. I'm glad that it has a dark chocolate brown color (Boxed) that I can use as brow powder and there's also a black one (Noir) which is perfect as an eyeliner. It's very convenient.

I don't use an eyeshadow primer underneath these but the color payoff is still vivid, except Bow and Pamper of course. I apply these in the morning and by noontime there would be fading but I rarely put on more of it. I just run a fluffy eyeshadow brush and they still look fine on me.

To sum up, I love majority of the colors, except the duds. They look lovely and the textures are great. A big plus for me would be the sturdy packaging. It doesn't seem like the the hinges will be giving  up anytime soon and thank God for that because I plan to use this for the entire year and I hope I would be able to hit the pans. That would be so satisfying. It also comes with a wide mirror underneath that cover. I'm giving this an A+ for convenience.

Despite a few duds, I really love this palette and it's one of my best eyeshadow purchases ever. This also happens to be on my favorites list for the month of February.

Follow me here in Blogspot!

This is me, trying hard to put some words together to write a blog post despite the writer's block that I am experiencing. I'm basically having a brain hemorrhage while doing this. My only consolation in this moment of deficiency is that I can still do graphics. See ⇓⇓⇓ ? Thank God for the holy Photoshop and all the angels behind it! At least I can still express myself in this manner.

This little spread was inspired by florals and pastels. I added a good amount of hearts too, aside from the word itself. After all, Feb's the love month.

Like I said, I'm really struggling with words so I'll just leave you with the rest of this post. It took me more than a week to compose this blog post. Slow month. It's a capsule post comprised of some favorites, a few mini hauls and one big event that happened on the Love Month. Care to guess what that is? I hope you get to the bottom of this blog post. (*_*)

FAVORITES
I've had previous posts about monthly favorites but I'd only included beauty products or makeups. For a change, I thought I might include some other sorts of favorites like movies or music or books, or other interests. Here come the favorites for this month!

SLEEK MAKEUP I-DIVINE MINERAL BASED EYESHADOW PALETTE IN OH SO SPECIAL
I purchased this one from SHOPEE last January but I only got to use it fully on February. Truly, there are so many palettes to choose from Sleek's I Divine collection. I picked this "Oh So Special" one because it has a combination of pretty pink pastels, basic browns and smoky ones, in a mixture of mattes and shimmer. It can take me through any mood and any occasion. I will be using this throughout 2017 and hopefully I will feel the satisfaction of hitting the pan.

Hacksaw Ridge//Image Credit: www.crimsonmultimedia.com
HACKSAW RIDGE
I spent Valentine's Day night cuddling with my husband, watching this. Yes, our daughter was holding a bowl of cheese-flavored popcorn, squeezed in between us. How romantic! No hint of sarcasm there, we really do love war movies.

Okay, much has been said about this movie and I won't go into details anymore. On my part however, I decided to go blindly when I watched this: I didn't read reviews, didn't see the trailer, didn't know the plot. I loved the romantic and comic beginnings but I was surprised at where the story was taking me. Needless to say, I ended up wiping tears with my cheese powder-stained hands. My daughter will have been asleep by the time we got to the  gory part, thank God! Andrew Garfield playing Spidey was iconic but from now on I will always remember him as Desmond Doss. I know my Enemy At The Gates, Fury, Pearl Harbor, Saving Private Ryan, Unbroken, Schindler's List, etc. but Hacksaw Ridge is just wow! Watch it if you haven't already.

BUYS

FLORAL LIGHT PLANNER IN GREEN
Where I Got It: Shopee Philippines//Seller:jennruiz of FabuLESS Shoppe
How Much: Php 127.00
I've been looking for a planner at the start of 2017 but as much as possible I didn't want to purchase anything pricey, after all, it's still just a notebook, right? Hey, it's an individual's prerogative if he or she wants a fancy Starbucks planner. But I didn't see the need for that so I really tried to find something affordable, functional and lovely.  Thank God I found this one at Shopee. What I love about it is that it's open dated - there are no indicated years or dates on it. I can use it beyond 2017 and it's up to me put the dates. About 50 more leaves can be used as a journal, diary, wishlist, listahan ng may utang, etc. Saya! It's perfect for someone like me who commits everything to writing aka malilimutin na.

HAPPY DAY KOREAN SIGN PEN
Where I Got It: Shopee Philippines//Seller:jennruiz of FabuLESS Shoppe
How Much: Php 120.00
When I picked up that planner, I thought it should come with some colorful pens to write it with. The pens also have cute designs, I feel like a child just having them around. That's Php 120.00 pesos for ten pieces. Hopefully I can fight the writer's block with these.

MANGO LEOPARD PRINT ZIP WALLET
Where I Got It: Lazada PH
How Much: Php 650.00//Discounted from €25 or about Php 1300.00
I was thrilled when this one arrived at the start of February because it was shipped from abroad and I thought it would arrive at a later time. It came well packaged, complete with a price tag and smelled like it just came out of a factory; it's pretty much legit MNG to me. The leopard print is really lovely and the material is soft, however it can easily get scratched (you can see the white marks on the photo). That's the reason why I couldn't fall head over heels over this one. That's one of the hitches. About a month into using it I'm having trouble with the zipper because it's not running smoothly. So heads up ladies. If you ever want to purchase something like this from Lazada, those are the troubles that I ran into. But I'll make the most of it, I'm not tossing it easily, after all, leopard print is still F-I-E-R-C-E.

I read the tags inside and it says that the outer part is made of 88% Polyurethane, 12% Bovine Leather, and the lining is 100% Polyester. It was made in China.

MOMENTS :)
Mayora Ding Suan looking kilig. Ha ha.

......aaaaaaaaaaand surprise! Dan and I have gotten married. It happened last February 21, 2017 - 02-21-2017 - the date had a nice ring to it so I pushed for IT to happen on that day. There's really nothing much to explain here. We have been together since 2010; we have Celestine. Although, never in my wildest dream did I ever imagine that this would be the wedding setup.

If somebody told me seven years ago that I would be married in the Mayor's Office, in a town called Allen, with two police officers as witnesses, I would have screamed "SHUT UP!". But here we are. I'm a legit missus. :) Thanks for the greetings.

See, there's a lot to love during the love month. ;)
