Clay masks are all the rage these days and of course I wouldn't want to be left behind in trying out this trend. However, it's not jut the trendiness that attracts me but also the benefits that come with using facial masks.
This one from Beauty Bakery for instance contains charcoal, crushed apricot seeds and olive seeds. It promises to pull away deep seated dirt and sebum from the skin. It also promises to tighten pores. I have  oily, pimple-prone skin with large pores and this product certainly fits the bill.
So, did it work for me?
Review is after the jump.

Beauty Bakery Charcoal & Clay Scrub Mask
Price: 199.00
Where to Buy: www.beautymnl.com

What is it?
Functions as an exfoliating scrub and purifying mask; thoroughly cleanses by drawing out toxins, excess sebum, and deep-seated dirt; removes pore-clogging bacteria to tighten and refine skin; formulated with charcoal, crushed apricot seeds, and olive seeds; smoothens and mattifies skin for a fresh, glowing look. -www.beautymnl.com

Packaging, Ingredients & Other Details
It comes in a small black tub which contains 100 grams of product. Packaging is pretty simple and all the labels are written at the top of the cap. The 'how to use' is written but the ingredients of the product is not indicated in the labels.

There's a tag at the bottom of the tub which contains the expiry month and year. The product came shrink-wrapped so that's a guarantee that the product is fresh and unused.

In Action
The clay mask takes on the charcoal-grey color. When the product is spread, you can see that it has these tiny grainy stuff which help in exfoliating the skin.
Here's a photo of me while wearing the mask and after washing it off.

My Take
I'll have to be very honest: the first thing that caught my attention about this product was the fact that it has a Php 199.00 price tag. After that, I started reading the reviews at BeautyMNL and was thoroughly convinced that it's worth trying out.

I'll cut the chase here: I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PRODUCT!

It smells great - like fruits but I can't tell if what kind of fruit - and doesn't feel uncomfortable when worn. If anything, it has a slight cooling effect on the face. As the instruction says, I rub it in circular motion but instead of washing it off immediately, I love to leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes.

After washing it off, I can immediately tell the difference. My facial skin feels soft and baby smooth to touch. My pores become visibly tighter. I could just be imagining that but I got compliments too from my officemate who noticed that my pores were looking tame and I'm not too oily. :) I've only used it three times as I write this blog and I promise to be more masipag in applying this mask.

A little goes a long way too with this product so I guess this 100g tub while last for a while.

If I may make a suggestion for room for improvement, I'd like a more specific label, like for the ingredients to be indicated in the packaging because I really love being informed of what I'm putting in my skin. Of course I was able to catch the ingredients at BeautyMNL but some of us may not be able to have the same access to that site. That's it. Just a little small, tiny, little baby hiccup (or something like that, as said by Liam Neeson in Love Actually).

For the price, this products can't be beat. Beauty Bakery is also a proudly Filipino company, so I just feel happy that we keep churning out great quality products in the local scene.

L'Oreal Paris Color Rich L'Extraordinaire Matte V109 Jardin Pamplemousse Packaging

First off, the gold-colored packaging looks really classy, making it a cut above the rest of liquid lipsticks that have swarmed the market. It's an eye candy. Then you go over to the top and you see an engraved L'Oreal logo; it's like staring into something really special. Then down to the body, you see the color of the liquid lipstick itself, and it goes down to the bottom, where the shade name and other details are written.

I'll have to tell you though that when I saw this for the first time and I was so excited to try it on my lip, I tried so hard to pull the cap to open it. Silly me.

Applicator

Here's a photo of the applicator because I'm having a hard time trying to describe it, you can just check it out yourself. :) It's unlike the doe foot applicator of the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream or the wand applicator of liquid concealers. It looks like a small tongue. It's bendable and that tip can help you go through those corners of your lips.

L'Oreal Paris Color Rich L'Extraordinaire Matte V109 Jardin Pamplemousse Swatch

On the tube, it looks too orangey but when swatched it is coral. BTW my friends, if you haven't Googled it already, Pamplemousse is French for grapefruit, and you can well imagine the meat of a grapefruit to be pinkish-orangey in color and I think it's an apt description of the shade.

The color scared me when I first saw it. It just looked too bright and it's not something I'd normally wear. When I put it on my lips, it didn't look right either. Instead of a brightening effect, my skin looked dark and the color just clashed with my skin tone. It also has a tendency to make your teeth look yellowish. Another thing that I don't like about this lippie is the strong fragrance. I think it's fruity but it really is too strong for me. It's not like anything I've smelled before so I really can't describe it but it really gives me an instant headache. It nearly made me puke the first time I had it. I was having premenstrual syndrome at that time and my sense of smell was being more sensitive than the usual.

By then I really regretted ever getting this.

L'Oreal Paris Color Rich L'Extraordinaire Matte V109 Jardin Pamplemousse In Action

After the PMS episode and when my nose wasn't so sensitive, I decided to give it another shot. So the formula does feel cushiony soft on the lips. This time though, instead of slathering a generous amount of product (like I would a NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream), I decided to put a small amount and then I used my fingers to blot it out and kind of pressed it into my lips. It looked washed out and subtle on my lips but at least it looked so much better than the last time I applied it.

To Sum Up
There are about ten different color options of this lippie. I'm still wondering why I picked this coral shade. I guess it looked good on the swatches. That's another peril of buying cosmetics online. If I picked one pinkish or berry-ish I could be singing a different tune. Well, at least I was able to "fix" it to suit my skin tone. However, I'm still not a big fan of its scent. Sorry, L'Oreal. :)

I think this color would be more flattering on fair-skinned ladies.

Prep your puckers and make sure they are smooth because even if it feels cushiony on the lips, it can still accentuate the dry patches. It also transfers, which is something that I expect when a matte lippie claims that it is moisturizing. Staying power is also not that long since it transfers.

In the end, I learned my lesson. I've been on a buying ban on lip products as of this moment since I want to consume all of them by the end of this year. That being said, I'll be making the most out of this product. I think I'll avoid the lip creams next time and I'll just grab a real red lipstick from L'Oreal.

Have you tried this one yet? Care to share your thoughts about it?

Today's review is about these two makeup pots that I got from Suesh via BeautyMNL. If you don't already know, Suesh Cosmetics is a Pinoy brand that offers a wide range of makeup tools, for pros and beginners alike. The very first product that I bought Suesh is the 12 PC 'Blush' Brush Set which I purchased back in 2014. The brushes are still around and I still use them a lot.

So these pots are basically part of Suesh's CYOP or Choose/Create Your Own Palette; if you have your own magnetic palette or you can get empty palettes from Suesh and you can fill it with your own colors or shades of choice. Cool huh? They also have  shadow, blush, contour and lip pots. Ladies, you know the drill!

So, like any makeup junkee, I'm also in the quest for finding the perfect Concealer and Corrector to hide my dark circles. I think I read about these concealer pots at Project Vanity so I decided to grab some when I chanced upon Suesh products at BeautyMNL. Of course a yellow shade is a must for brightening the undereyes but I also needed a peachy-pink tone to counteract the darkness that's why I picked another one.

The pots came with a transparent plastic containers so if you don't have magnetic palette, you can store them in their original packaging. However, there's something classy about having makeups in black packaging so when I saw the 1 Hole PVC Empty Magnetic Palette on the Suesh website, I just knew I had to grab them too. Moreover, I didn't have second thoughts because I knew they would fit perfectly since they come from the same brand. That's 36 mm across.

Swatches
Left: HD Cream Foundation// Right: Concealer
I honestly have no qualms about the texture and pigmentation of these babies. They are both very creamy and have good coverage even with just one layer. They also blend smoothly on to the skin. They both have a light sweet scent about them (a hint of coconut smell?) which is not bothersome for me.

You can see on the swatches that the peach-tone HD Cream Foundation seems to be a good match for my skintone but my hand is actually darker than my face so I'm not really using this as a foundation but rather just for color correcting in the undereye area. Moreover, my face is really oily so I steer clear of cream foundations. There's also no indication on its features about oil control properties so I'm not vouching on it either. Meanwhile, the Concealer swatch is very yellow but fret not, the color translates well on my baggies. Here, I've put them into action.

In Action
Feel free to admire the darkness... LOLS :)

1. Without Correctors or Concealers, just The Quick FX Eye Cream to prep the area.
2. Applied Yellow Concealer first on one eye to show the difference.
3. Applied Cream Foundation on the other to see which one is better as a Corrector. I think the Cream Foundation side looks better.
4. Topped the Concealer with Cream Foundie and put Concealer on top of Cream Foundation and I think the Cream Foundation-Concealer sequence looks better still.

5. Baking time to set the under-eye products. Five to 10 minutes, please. :)
6. Blended out the setting powder and voila! Bye bye dark circles

To Sum Up
Finding the right products and discovering the best way to put them really makes a huge difference  on your face. That is why I'm sticking to this procedure. It's not as time consuming as you think. I basically use my fingers during the application. Sometimes I use a concealer brush for application but for blending out, I think nothing can replicate the warmth of one's fingers which helps in seamlessly spreading out the products

Like I said earlier, the only problem that I have about these products is that their staying power is not so great. That is why, I really take time to bake so that they would be well set and stay all day with minimal touch ups needed.

Hope this review has been helpful. :)

Ladies, I've amped up my nude lipstick game. I got me not one, not two, but three nude lipsticks. But hey, I didn't break my bank while doing so. Spendthrift lady still got her penny pinching ways going on. But how? How? Let's just say I was at the right online shop at the right time. Yep, BeautyMNL, my favorite go-to beauty destination, sold these three Maybelline Creamy Matte Color Sensational Brown Nudes in a set called "Will You MLBB Me? 💓". If you're not familiar with this acronym, MLBB stands for "My Lips But Better", a common term used for lippies that enhance the beauty of your lips while staying as close to the real lip color.

These lippies cost Php 299.00 each, but for MLBB set they all just came for Php 699.00. I actually had second thoughts about getting the set despite the slashed price. What would I do with those extra lippies anyway. But I thought that if one of the shades doesn't suit me I'll just give it away. So, how did my experience go? Deets after the jump!

There are six shades of the Maybelline Creamy Matte Color Sensational Brown Nudes available at BeautyMNL: Nude Embrace, Daringly Nude, Clay Crush, Nude Nuance, Touch of Spice and Burgundy Blush. The shades included in the "Will You MLBB Me? 💓" set are Clay Crush, Touch of Spice and Nude Nuance. It came in this cute brown box.
I won't even think twice and just say "YES!"
Three is a charm!
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
The Maybelline Creamy Matte Brown Nudes comes in the standard Maybelline lip bullet: squarish at the base with a semi-transparent brown cap. It's a brown cap in this case because it's for the "Brown Nudes"; the cap color is different for the other Maybelline Creamy Matte Color Sensational Lipsticks. They look identical when the cover is on so you can only tell which color is which either by opening the cap itself or by looking at the label and color at the bottom.

According to the label these lippies are made in the USA and here is the list of ingredients:

Isononyl Isononanoate, Octyldodecanol, Oleyl Erucate, Silica, Cera Alba / Beeswax / Cire Dabeille, Phenyl Trimethicone, Cera Microcristallina / Microcrystalline Wax / Cire Microcristalline, Synthetic Wax, Sesamum Indicum Oil/Sesame Seed Oil, PEG-45 / Dodecyl Glycol Copolymer, Kaolin, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Dimethicone, Tocopheryl Acetate, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-T-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Alumina, Benzyl Alcohol, Mel / Honey / Miel, Parfum / Fragrance, (May Contain: Mica, CI 77891 / Titanium Dioxide, CI 77491, CI 77499 / Iron Oxides, CI 15850 / Red 7, CI 45410 / Red 28 Lake, CI 45380 / Red 22 Lake, CI 15985 / Yellow 6 Lake, CI 42090 / Blue 1 Lake)

These lippies smell awesome: like CHOCOLATE or other chocolate-y dessert.

MAYBELLINE CREAMY MATTE BROWN NUDES SWATCHES
Swatches are here!
Here are the shade description posted at Beauty MNL:
Maybelline Creamy Matte in Touch of Spice: A universally-flattering mauve.
Maybelline Creamy Matte in Nude Nuance: A beautiful rosy brown.
Maybelline Creamy Matte in Clay Crush: A pretty peach-brown with golden undertones.
Hello loves, I'm not lookin' good. LOLs.
MAYBELLINE CREAMY MATTE BROWN NUDES IN ACTION

When I bought this set, my intention was to find a perfect nude lipstick for me. After trying each of them on, I realized that I found the perfect nude lipstick for me, for every occasion.

Clay Crush is simple yet understated. I think this the most used of the three. I wear it to the office most of the time. The bronzy undertone just gives life to my face! It Also looks absolutely awesome when topped with my favorite peachy-bronze lip gloss.

Touch of Spice is perfect for the office and looks really great when worn with my blue Monday uniform. When the color is layered and intensified, it also looks good for a night out!

Nude Nuance is the color that I deemed too dark for my liking but when I'd gotten used to it, it has also become my favorite. This is certainly something that I would not wear everyday; I'd wear this when I need some "Ooomph" on my look. Would also be perfect for a night out.

True to their name, these lippies are creamy and matte. There's no dry feeling when wearing it; the formula hugs the lips and it doesn't feel likes there's anything sitting on top of your lips. It really blends well on the lips. The color is very vivid. Staying power differs: Nude Nuance and Touch of Spice stays longer on the lips, about 6 hours and can survive lunch. Clay Clush on the other hand, being sheerer in color, lasts about 4 to 5 hours on me.

Here's a photo of me wearing the bespoken lipsticks. I think they are all my favorites.

Overall, I just totally heart these lipsticks. Right now, bout ninety percent of the time that I'm wearing a lipstick, I'm wearing this. Matte lipstick isn't meant to be comfortable because it's supposed to be drying but this one breaks the norm. It's comfortable to wear and my lips don't look like they are about to break.

Affordability? Check
Great Color Payoff? Check
Comfortable to Wear? Check
And somewhere in there I can squeeze in the fact that this lipsticks smell like chocolates!

Am I such a looser for trying the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream only now? Feels like it. (^_^) The SMLC is probably one the cult favorites made by NYX. Even before the Kylie Lip Kit or ColourPop became popular, the SMLC was already a favorite among beauty bloggers and makeup junkies alike. Well, as they say, late is better than never, so never say never. Does that make sense? Ha ha. I'm sharing my experience after the jump.

NYX SOFT MATTE LIP CREAM
Shade: Stockholm/SMLC02
Price: 390.00//Size: 8 mL
Where I Got It: www.beautymnl.com
Also available at different online shops, this lip cream is basically everywhere but be wary about fake ones of these. That's why I got it from an online shop I can trust like BeautyMNL

I checked out Nyx's website and as I write this, there are about 34 shades of the Soft Matte Lip Cream to choose from. They are all named after different cities around the globe; you got it right, there is a Manila shade. I wanted a nude one though so I picked Stockholm, one of the most recommended nude shade.

PACKAGING, LABELS, ETC.
So here is the photo of the tube of this lip cream. I'd imagined the tube to be lengthier but in real life it's just a little over 2 and 1/2 inches in length (excluding the black cap). Printed at the bottom is the shade name but in truth you won't be needing the shade name if you are trying to find this in your vault of lipsticks. This one is pretty easy to spot since you can easily see the color of the tube. Moreover, what you see is what you get because the color on the tube is the actual color of the lip cream.

I dislike lip products with strong scents but I can make an exception for this one because it smells really good. It smells like cake! Or candy! It's amazing!

"Halla, Stockholm!" According to Google that is how you say "Hello" in Swedish.
Check out the doe foot applicator. I think the slanting angle at the tip is perfect during application.  I also like that it's not too big and it's great for tracing and drawing at the corners of the mouth.

The tube and the doe foot applicator.
Here are some of the details on the label and you can see that it's made in....where else? :) It's also indicated that it can be used up to 18 months after opening (18M). I am not sure though if I could reach the 18 month mark since it doesn't seem like there's plenty of product inside the tube. And there's no way for me to squeeze the tube to the very last drop.

Details
Ingredients
SWATCHES
The color has been described as Mid-Tone Beige Pink on the NYX Website. I picked this one because I didn't want anything bright. I didn't want to get anything too beige because I will look washed out so I picked one that leans towards the pinkish side. So here are the swatches under different light settings.

IN ACTION
Since this is a lip cream, it is of course, creamy (LOL). Creamy in a mousy way, not in a runny way. Upon application on the lips it doesn't immediately set. You have about thirty second before it dries to a fully matte, flat finish that clings to the lips. No qualms about the matte finish since it doesn't feel uncomfortable. Well of course girls, you know how it feels to wear matte lipsticks. There's a certain tight feeling on the lips at first but goes away after a while.

So that photo would be a blowup of my lips before and after applying the Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream. This is a matte lippie girls, so you know the drill about keeping the lips prepped prior to application.
Top: Bare Lips
Bottom: Wearing the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream
Excuse the hair hahaha! My au naturelle look using the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream on my lips.
For the staying power, I think it lasted on my lips without budging for about 4 to 5 hours, with careful eating and drinking. It would be a different story though if you eat oily food. No, it cannot brave our favorite Filipino dishes, sad to say.

TO CAP THINGS...
Color-wise I think I made the right choice. I think it can instantly prettify me without looking overdone. Perfect for the office. Matte and nude is the current trend but owning a nude that looks good on you is a classic move and this one's a keeper.

XO,
Carissa
It felt like Christmas came early when my package from BeautyMNL arrived. It came complete with a Christmas themed wrapper and a tag that said "Happy Holidays, Beautiful!" and I just hastily opened it because I was particularly excited about the three nude lipsticks from Maybelline which came in a gift set called "Will you MLBB me? 💗 ". I have become a lipstick addict lately and when I am shopping with BeautyMNL I'm sure that I am getting fresh and authentic stocks. So without further ado, here's my BeatyMNL haul!

I have shopped twice at BeautyMNL in less than a month; blame it on their promos such as free shipping at no minimum order required. And now this one in particular: the 3 nude lipsticks gift set for Php 699.00 that is so hard to resist.

THE "WILL YOU MLBB ME?" SET FROM MAYBELLINE

When I ordered this set, I thought that in case I didn't like one of the lippies I would willingly give it away. Let's just say that I fell in love at first swipe so I'm keeping 'em. The regular price for each piece of Creamy Matte Brown Nude lipstick is Php 299.00. The MLBB Gift Set came at Php 699.00 so that means I saved Php 99.00 or Php 33.00 for each lippie. Not a bad deal, huh?

Left to Right: Clay Crush, Touch of Spice and Nude Nuance
Color Description are as follows. I got it from www.beautymnl.com.
The colors are all very office friendly and just having thee around, I feel inspired and fired up to go to work. However, these can also be amplified to suit for night outs, especially Nude Nuance and Touch of Spice. Touch of Spice is said to be a favorite of Georgina Wilson's and I can see why. These three are all my favorites. Even when I'm not using them, they are also hits on the olfactory department - they smell like chocolate!

NYX SOFT MATTE LIP CREAM IN STOCKHOLM

This one came with my previous order - the very first time that I tried ordering at BeautyMNL. It actually cost Php 390.00 which is tad higher than the prices of those at other online shops but I'm really wary of buying from unknown sources since there's a proliferation of knockoffs in the market. Anyway, I am also happy about this purchase. I know there's a Nudie Lipstick theme going on in this post and I am totes enjoying this trend. :)

The SMLC Stockhom is described in the NYX website as a Mid-Tone Beige Pink. Thanks to the pink part, this one still makes me look pretty flushed and not sickly pale. This one also smells yum, like cake or vanilla. It pretty much stays put, unless you eat something oily.

BEACHBORN SEA SALT SPRAY

This one is DA BOMB! At Php 180.00 per 100 mL bottle, I have a shot at getting Serena Van der Woodsen-like hair! What's not to love? This one also comes  handy when making the baby hairs and strays behave whenever I do  a pony tail. Just a tiny glitch though, my spritzer won't spritz anymore after a couple of uses. I will need a replacement bottle. Sigh!

VASELINE LIP THERAPY

Lastly, I grabbed this Vaseline Lip Therapy tube because I knew I would using matte lipsticks often and it could dry out my lips. That's me being cautious. It only cost Php 75.00 so it's definitely a winner.

Thanks to BeautyMNL, I don't have to go to a physical just to get my beauty fix. Even if I live in the province and have never seen a Maybelline beauty counter here (OMG!), I'm definitely catching up with other beauty junkies about the latest raves and cheap thrills.

It's definitely a beauty destination for me.
