So, I have a situation here: I want to try out different fragrances but I am easily nauseated or turn dizzy whenever I take a whiff of strongly scented colognes or perfumes.
I know I'm such a lightweight but I wouldn't give up easily and
I thought that maybe I just haven't found the right fragrance for me yet.
I did a quick research on colognes that are fresh and inoffensive and I found out that one such is the
Heno de Pravia Agua de Colonia.

I know the Heno De Pravia brand from soaps and I can recall that it has a fresh and very herby scent.
Heno De Pravia Cologne
With a little bit of digging, I found out that when it comes to colognes
that evoke a sense of nostalgia and timeless elegance, Heno de Pravia Agua De Colonia
stands out as a beloved classic. Well, if it was originally created in Spain in 1900s and has managed to
maintain its charm and appeal across generations, then it certainly is a classic. As a
historical junkie, I am always in search of products that have withstood the test of time.
I was both intrigued and excited to try Heno de Pravia Agua De Colonia and
share my thoughts on this classic.

First Impressions
This cologne comes in a humongous plastic bottle: 780 ml to be exact! I could have bought a sample from online shops in Shopee but I was so sure I was gonna love it so I decided to go with my guts and purchased the full-sized bottle.  From the moment I opened it, I knew I was right about the herby and citrusy scent of the Heno de Pravia Soap in my youth. True enough, I didn't get nauseous when I got my first whiff. Heno de Pravia’s scent is light and clean, making it perfect for everyday wear. The initial burst of fresh-cut grass and citrus notes is both refreshing and uplifting, setting a positive tone for the day ahead.

Scent Profile
Heno de Pravia Agua de Colonia is a classic Spanish fragrance that has been cherished for generations. It is said that this cologne is inspired by the smell of fresh cut hay in the Spanish countryside as the name translates to "hay of Pravia".  The top notes are of lemon, lavender, and rosemary which are crisp and zesty. The heart notes of lily of the valley, geranium, and jasmine give a hint of sweetness after the initial tanginess. The base notes of musk, sandalwood, and vetiver provide a warm and comforting finish.

Longevity and Sillage
As an Eau De Cologne (EDC), of course I knew how to set my expectations about this product. The top and middle notes disappear within the first hour but despite its light and airy composition, the dry down scent lingers on the skin for about 2 hours, becoming a sweet skin scent which I love. The sillage is minimal/subtle, but like I said as an EDC, it is to be expected. I love spraying it on my clothes to help stretch the wear time a little bit. Aside from this cologne and the iconic bath soap, the Heno De Pravia line also come with lotion, body wash and deodorant spray so if you want to make the linger, you have these options.

Packaging and Presentation
The packaging is no nonsense and is pretty much practical and I have no complaints about it. It is sturdy and was able to withstand transit without leaking or breaking. I decant the cologne into a small spray bottle that I can carry in  my purse. Also, with the opening at the top, whenever I try to splash the cologne I tend to dispense a bit more than what is necessary so it's really much better if it is decanted into a spray bottle to avoid waste. The color scheme is identifiable as it is in the same yellow color of the classic soap packaging.

Value for Money
I am happy with this product and I consider it a  good value for money. First off, I didn't get migraines while wearing this, so I already consider it a win. With this big bottle, it's going to take a while before I would be in need of a new one.

Final Thoughts
Heno de Pravia Aqua de Colonia is a testament to the beauty of simplicity and tradition. Its fresh and clean scent is exactly what I've been looking for. Although it is light and tend to fade away quickly, I have no qualms about reapplying it every now and then. It didn't cause the dreaded migraine and  living in a tropical country where it is hot and humid most days of the year, this really comes handy.

Will I buy it again? Yes! I even want to try the lotion and body wash varieties in the future.
Will I recommend it? Yes I will. For cologne lovers out there, this is definitely a must try. I love spraying it to my babies as well. With their body chemistries, the scent tends to lean sweeter. Or maybe I am just biased because they are my babies!

Here's a review of the Vice Cosmetics Aura Blush in shade "Sweet Lang".Vice Cosmetics Aura Blush
Shade: Sweet Lang
Price: Php 145.00
Where To Buy: www.vicecosmetics.com

What is it?
A soft, buildable powder blush that gives a head-turning aura no matter the occasion. It comes in 8 universally flattering shades.

List of Ingredients

Swatch
"Sweet Lang" is a cool toned natural pink on fair skin and pale pink on medium to deep skin.

In Action
My Take
I expected "Sweet Lang" to be a matte pink blush with zero shimmers but upon looking closely at the pan and swatches, I realized that there are microshimmers in it. But I'm not disappointed though and it's totally fine with me since they are not the chunky type of spackles. They don't even look obvious in these photos. What I see is how flattering the shade is on my light-medium skin tone. Literally, I felt youthful when I saw the photos and I totally get why "Sweet Lang" is the name of the shade, because I look sweet.

Pigmentation is good, in fact you need to be careful because you could end up getting too much with just one swipe. It does tend to be powdery so you better tap off that excess before application.
Staying power is on the average, especially on my oily skin. Oil starts seeping on the three hour mark so there's definitely a need to reapply.

I was not happy about the packaging though. It comes in a plastic magenta compact and the transparent covering easily came off which I tried to remedy by taping it on. However, since it tended to come off every now and then, it kept opening up in my bag. It got contaminated and I started seeing molds on the surface. I had to chuck it, even if I barely made a dent on the star-embossed surface. Sayang! But I loved the blush itself and honestly I am still thinking about repurchasing in the future. Although, if the same thing happens about the covering, I will just try to depot it and not tape it on.
I love Vice Ganda's products in general, especially the Dual Finish Foundation which I have yet to review in this blog. If only the blushes came in sturdier packaging like the foundation.

Will I buy it again? Yes, despite the blunder with the packaging.
Will I recommend it? Yes I will. If I get asked about blushes at this price point, I would definitely mention this one.

I have also reviewed the Vice Cosmetics Good Vibes Lipsticks in the past.

Anyone who loves makeup has at some point, aspired to own even just a single bullet of the MAC lipstick. It took a while for me to purchase my first one since I dabbled with drugstore brands at the start. I currently own the iconic Ruby Woo (I'll save that one for another review 😉), and these two here, the Relentlessly Red and the Velvet Teddy.  They are both minis so they don't come in the usual black MAC bullet but are in brightly colored ones that roughly correspond to their respective shades. You can spot from the bottom labels that these aren't supposed to be sold individually because they are part of a set. I only purchased the shades that caught my eye: one nude shade and one bright red shade and I got them from a favorite seller on Instagram. I figured that since I am just trying out MAC for the first time, I will get the minis first and see how it goes from there.
So how did my first experience with MAC go? Find out after the jump.

MAC Relentlessly Red
Shade description - bright pinkish coral
Formula - retro matte
Price - Php 1050.00 for full size (lazada.com.ph)

MAC Relentlessly Red swatch and when worn
MAC Relentlessly Red Review
Relentlessly Red confused me as I expected it to be red but it is in fact a pinkish coral according to the shade description on the MAC website. 😆 Most times I tend to pull the pink (hot pink even) and there times that it's the red. A reddish pink or a pinkish red? One thing's for sure, this shade is muy caliente and it easily emboldens the wearer. It comes in the retro matte formula, which in MAC speak means it's more matte than their regular matte line. Unfortunately, if you have dry lips, this could pose a problem because it is drying and my lips have certainly taken a beating especially during colder months. Prep those puckers like I did and do, even good ol' Vaseline will suffice.
Pigmentation and color payoff is great. If applied directly from the tube, you might feel a bit of a drag since the retro matte formula feels more waxy than other lipsticks.
It transfers when freshly applied so I do the tissue blotting technique and then I use my pinky to press/spread the product to my lips. Sometimes I add another layer of it if I'm feeling extra. Because of its waxy feel, it has a good staying power and it resists fading even when I've sipped water or coffee. It only comes off when I've had something oily.

MAC Velvet Teddy
Shade description - a deep tone beige
Formula - matte
Price - Php 1050.00 for full size (lazada.com.ph)
MAC Velvet Teddy swatch and when worn
MAC Velvet Teddy Review
I loved Velvet Teddy right off the tube! As you can see in the photo above, it looks great on my skin tone. It's definitely a good nude shade for me as it is not too pale that I look sickly and not too bright pinkish or dark brown to pass off as a nude. MAC's matte is actually akin to creamy matte so it's a comfort to wear. Like the Relentlessly Red, it transfers when freshly applied so I also do the trick that I mentioned above and  then it adheres to the lips. It's not drying like the retro matte formula but the staying power is also average. Despite the average staying power, this will be one of those shades that I will always remember as a point of reference in the future.

To wrap up...
I bought the Ruby Woo after trying these two out so, long story short, I loved the experience with MAC. MAC lipsticks are well-loved and iconic for a reason; the formula has been tested time and again. In the end, it really boils down to shade selection and MAC  has a myriad of shades to choose from. Between these two, Velvet Teddy is the shade that I will most likely rebuy. I've been reaching for it more often since I really prefer wearing nudes, especially in an office setting. But there are days that I am in the mood for something like Relentlessly Red, depending on the weather or how I wanna dress up.

I am currently on a lipstick buying ban and I so badly want to consume all my tubes by 2022. Come to think of it, these are just minis and I am barely halfway through. No more lipstick hoarding for me: quality over quantity na dapat. It's a big feat but so far, I think I'm doing good and I promise to do better than I did in 2020.😆 If there would be another lipstick shade that I wanna try from MAC, it would be the Please Me. I'm still searching for the pink that's not too light, dark, hot or Barbie-ish and I have a feeling that Please Me is it. Maybe I'll deserve a full-sized MAC if I don't buy any lipstick this 2021. Walk the talk Cas, walk the talk.

Heyyah!
So... I know this blog o' mine features a lot of girl or mom-related stuff but for today, I'm in the mood to feature something for the gents.
These products are straight from the husband's vanity kit.
*small talk*
His regimen is pretty simple. He's loyal to one variant of facial scrub or else he gets zits so I know that what he uses is really THEEEE "sikreto ng mga gwapo". Over the course of our 10-year relationship, I've only seen him use one brand of hair wax, so much so that I've associated the scent of *cough* Bench Clay Doh *cough* with him. One way to put him in a bad mood is to hide his hair wax and I am not exagerating here. He only ever likes one particular deodorant, that's why I hoard whenever there's a BOGO promo. He might use whatever bath soap there is but I am aware that he prefers the Piolo-endorsed papaya soap, not that he cares.
Whilst I, love switching from one product to another, he sticks with what works for him. But I heard that most member of the male specimen are like that so I am not surprised. 🤣
For his fragrance, I'll admit that he has no particular brand. He agrees on experimenting and is not averse to buying blindly. He sprays generously though, so a bottle can only last about three weeks on him.
Today I am featuring his two latest, one of which is already empty and the other one is about 30% away from. They are from a well-loved Filipino brand - Penshoppe.  I like the Penshoppe website because they include the notes of their fragrances. Even though I know very little to none about fragrance notes, I still enjoy reading them and I love validating them with my own thoughts about the fragrance. Check 'em out after the jump!

Penshoppe Hustle EDT for Men
Price: Php 329.00 for 50 mL
Fragrance Details (as taken from www.penshoppe.com)
Olfactive - Floral Musk
Top Notes - Absinthe, Anise, Fennel
Middle Notes - Lavender
Base Notes - Vanilla, Musk
I purchased this fragrance a few months back when he tasked me to get him a new one. I was at the Penshoppe store and I had to take photos of the racks of fragrances to get his approval thru Fb Messenger. But that's ridiculous though, it's not like you can smell it through the photos. 😜 In the end, it all came down to my decision. Too bad, I easily get nauseous with strong scents and I was already dreading the task before I even started.

Hustle is a scent that would call your attention. Kinda like it could make your head turn when somebody who's wearing it would walk by. I would describe it as a sweet musky scent. I definitely detect the lavender - vanilla but they don't come off as feminine probably because some of the other notes balance them out. For someone who is easily nauseous, I can tolerate it but it borderline makes me heady. It got his seal of approval naman, although I felt that he was still looking for something else.

Penshoppe DenimLove EDT for Men
Price: Php 399 for 70 mL
Fragrance Details (as taken from www.penshoppe.com)
Olfactive - Citrus Fruity Musky
Top Notes - Ozone, Bergamot, Lime, Lemon, Orange
Middle Notes - Coriander, Fruity, Jasmine, Muguet
Base Notes - Musk, Moss, Sandalwood, Cedar, Olibanum, Caramel, Amber

DenimLove was what he purchased for himself. When I opened the bottle and took a sniff, I realized that the scent definitely suits his personality. It is very subdued, you'd think it's just a clean after-shower smell because it is fresh. It doesn't scream "look at me!" and it is very simple. The citrus fruity musk description is very apt. Or I would say citrus and greens with a tiny hint of sweetness. Since this is a scent that he personally chose for himself, I could imagine a repurchase in the making. This could be his signature scent from hereon.

If your concern is the staying power of these fragrances, they are both EDT or eau d toilette so expect them to last about 4 hours on the average. They linger if sprayed on clothes. They are affordable and the packaging looks great. They are definitely great for gifting for the men in your life, especially that Father's Day is just around the corner.

I loved these scents and now I am convinced that I should get something from Penshoppe for myself.

Someday.

caRissa 🖤

Smith & Cult The Shining Lip Lacquer
Shade: Her Name Bubbles
Price: $22.00
Where I Bought It: Instagram seller

My Take
I am not a fan of glossy lips! Something about flying hair clashing with it spells hot mess for me. But I am willing to make an exception for Smith & Cult's The Shining Lip Lacquer! Everything about it, from the unique dented cap to the sweet tangy scent and the cushiony feel on the lips, is worth all the love. It is long-wearing, something that I do not expect about lip glosses or lacquers because it transfers. But somehow, even if it transfers, it still looks fine on the lips. I don't even need to reapply and I just press my lips together and they're fixed. They look lovely and the second next best thing about it is what happens after I've taken it off: my lips look and feel baby smooth. Like, it sloughs off every flaky bit of dry skin off the lips, like a lip balm would,  without leaving it dry. Find out more about this product after the jump!

Packaging and Applicator
At first I thought that my cap was damaged or dented. Then I saw on the S&C site that it is just the design. It gives you a good grip of the cap.
The dented cap
The lip lacquer bottle. It has a bit of a heft to it.

This color brings a youthful glow to my face. I love wearing it when I am wearing a bright top or that bright scarf in that photo because I don't like my lip color clashing with whatever color of clothes I am wearing. This color's also perfect this summer. It's a shame I can't wear it out often because I'm wearing face masks when I am outdoors anyway. Aaaaanywayyyys....COVID19 I hate you!

Despite having this high shine, trust me they aren't uncomfortable to wear. I love the cushiony feel that sometimes I can't help pressing my lips together. And did I mention they smell divine? That's the second time now.

Smith  Cult products are cruelty-free, paraben-free and phthalate-free.

Will I buy it again? Haha. I bought it at a discounted price. I will buy it again if I can afford it. If not, I hope I will be able to get a gloss or a lacquer with a similar formula and are just as kind to my lips.
Will you recommend it? Definitely! If you can drop that much cash for a gloss or a lacquer, do it!

I've been gifted this Vice Cosmetics Good Vibes Matte Lipstick last year by an office mate and I have been meaning to review this for so long.
Here it is!
Hush hush, baby is sleeping! ;)
Vice Ganda Good Vibes Matte Lipstick
Shade: Pak Ganern
Price: Php 195.00, but it was gifted to me
Where To Buy: www.vicecosmetics.com, Shopee, BeautyMNL, Lazada and department stores nationwide

My Take
For the past three years, various celebrities have come up with their own cosmetics brands. I couldn't keep up but told myself I would like to try them all, in time. I had a pile of lipsticks that I wanted to go through first so I wasn't buying anything new, no matter how tempting.

Lo and behold! My colleague arrived from the city and he gave me this one! Of course I was overjoyed! Finally, I would be able to try out The Unkabogable Vice Ganda's lipstick without shelling  out some cash. I asked him why he picked this shade and he said that it flatters me and I can recall that I frequently wore the Jouer Cerise Noir in the past so maybe that was his reference.

This lipstick is pigmented, has a creamy matte texture, leaves a full coverage and has a demi-matte finish. It has a light scent on the tube, which I could only describe as vanilla-coconut but once you are wearing it the scent is barely noticeable. It applies smoothly and is lightweight when worn on the lips. I honestly thought that it would transfer heavily because it's creamy matte after all but to my surprise it does not transfer once it's on! It has a relatively good staying power, unless you've had a full meal which would definitely require a touch up. At Php 195.00, they are such a joy to have! Vice made her products affordable for the Madlang People but she made sure that she won't scrimp on the quality. What's not to love?

Packaging
Here's a close up look at the tube. This pulls a reddish brown on this photo but let's discuss the shade later with the swatch below. The tube comes in an eye-catching magenta. Hard to miss, just like it's creator. But let me tell you this: the packaging doesn't look and feel cheap nor flimsy and it has a considerable heft to it.

Ingredients
Dimethicone/Vinyltrimethylsiloxysilcate/crosspolymer, Ozokerite Wax, IsononylIsononanoate, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Carprylic/Capric Triglyceride, TridecylTrimellitate, Cyclomethicone (and) DimethiconeCrosspolymer, Microcrystalline Wax, Synthetic Wax, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), 2-Phenoxyethanol. May Contain +/- Iron Oxides (CI 77492,CI 77499,CI 77491), Red 6 (CI 15850), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Red 27 (CI 45410), Red 7 Lake (CI 15850), Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090), Yellow 6 Lake (CI 15985). - as indicated in www.vicecosmetics.com.ph

Swatch
Vice's website describes this shade as mauve brown. Again, this might look reddish brown in this swatch but IRL, I love the mauve tone.

...and this is me, wearing Pak Ganern, wearing just a hint of smile because "pak ganern din ang muk ap game ng lola mo" hahaha. I love wearing brown lipsticks. It's a recent discovery that brown flatters me. The first brown lipstick that I tried was the Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipstick in Nude Nuance. I am actually reminded of their similarities but Nude Nuance was on the rosy brown side. Another favorite is the Jouer Long-Wear Lip Cream in Cerise Noir which is a cool black cherry. Once in a while, Maybelline's Official Store in Shopee sells some of its powders and liquid foundations in sets and luckily, I was able to grab one while they were discounted. I've heard so much about the Fit Me line from various bloggers and vloggers so my curiosity got the best of me. I was also able to purchase the Fit Me concealer from BeautyMNL so when I completed the trio I just knew that someday soon I would be doing a capsule review.
The review took me long enough that as of this writing, the bottle of liquid foundation is already empty and the pressed powder is depleted. I used the liquid foundie and pressed powder combo almost everyday and it took me more than a year to consume them. I still have the concealer because I seldom use it.
So here's my honest review about this set, right after the jump!

Maybelline Matte Have Bundles

Packaging/List of Ingredients
Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Liquid Foundation in 128 Warm Nude Ingredients, Details, and Packaging
The packaging of the liquid foundation has been one of the biggest concerns of the consumers because as you can see, there is no pump. The bottle neck gets messy as more and more excess products gets accumulated. It's also hard to control the amount of product that comes out whenever you pour it out.

But worry not! As of this writing, Maybelline has listened to its consumers and the bottle has been upgraded to include a pump.
For the pressed powder, I love the packaging. It has a mirror underneath the pan which also houses the sponge and although it's  bit bulkier than other pressed powders that I have in my stash, I don't mind because I really prefer that the sponge is stored separately from the powder.

The concealer comes in a plastic tube and I love that the doe foot applicator is small enough to fit the inner corners of my eye and it's also very light so I'm able to apply it with a light hand.

Swatches
In Action
Here's sequence of photos to show the difference when I used these products. You can see that for  their prices, they perform well. I didn't use any primer on my face and the liquid foundation was able to brighten up my face and even out my skin color, especially on my dark circles and on my forehead. It has also noticeably minimized my pores. I used a damp beauty sponge to apply the liquid foundation because I have observed that it dries quickly if I just use the traditional liquid foundation brush. The concealer further contributed in covering up the dark circles but to be honest, if I were to use the concealer alone, it won't be enough to brighten my under eyes.

To top it all is the pressed powder which did really well in locking in the liquid foundation and concealer and further blurring out the pores on my cheeks. I have no issues with the sponge applicator that came with this but I really prefer using a fluffy powder brush so I can apply it lightly and avoid caking.
My Take
One of the biggest deciding factors in determining the success or failure of a base product, be it a liquid or a powder foundation is if it matches your skin tone. For me, Maybelline did well in packing them in bundles as it took out the guessing game if which liquid foundation would go well with which powder. It boiled down to picking the right bundle and Maybelline's official store in Shopee also posted photos on how the bundles would look like on different skin tones. I have a light- medium skin tone with yellow undertone. I'm glad I picked a bundle that matched my skin tone to a T.

I have already discussed how good it made my skin look based on the photos so now I really understand why the FIT ME line has been hyped by beauty bloggers here and there. On top of that they are all light on my skin. Both the liquid foundation and concealer are creamy and the pressed powder has a fine texture.

My only concern it just their staying power. I have oily skin so by mid day the foundation breaks around my nose area. But really, it's nothing that can't be fixed by reapplying just the pressed powder and again I am good to go. If you want to make it stay put for longer, use a primer or a setting spray. The concealer is my least favorite in this bunch because for me, there's not enough coverage. It became handy though as I use it to highlight the bridge of my nose and my brow bones so it's not a total waste. Don't we all wish that the foundation and the powder had some SPF content? I do. But anyway, as someone from a tropical country like mine, I don't rely on SPF alone so I use a separate sunscreen.

Overall for me, the liquid foundation and the pressed powder are good buys, especially that I got them for less than Php 500.00. I won't hesitate to purchase them again in the future, especially that the bottle already has a pump. For the concealer, I don't think I will make a repurchase.

Here's a review of The Ordinary Serum Foundation in shade 2.0 YG. I could remember that once upon a time, there was a hype about The Ordinary products. I caught up on that hype and I purchased this one middle of last year. Now that the hype has died down I'm finally ready for a review. Ha ha. Seriously, I suck at beauty blogging. Anyway, 'ere it is.
The Ordinary Serum Foundation
Shade: 2.0 YG (Light Medium) Yellow Undertones With Gold Highlights
Price: USD 10.90 or around Php 600.00

What Is It?
Serum Foundations are lightweight medium-coverage formulations available in a comprehensive shade range across 21 shades. These foundations offer moderate coverage that looks natural with a very lightweight serum feel. (https://theordinary.com

Packaging
The packaging comes in a plastic bottle with a pump. It doesn't have a cover but you can keep the pump secure by turning it a bit counter clockwise to lock it. So far I have not experience accidental spilling in my bag but I admit that if you keep it your bag, the lock can be undone with constant movement. According to the Deciem website, you can replace the pump with a dropper which you can purchase separately from them.

List of Ingredients and Other Details
We all have different skin conditions and preferences. The Ordinary's website have sort of summarized the important attributes of this product for easy reference. This is alcohol-free, oil-free, gluten-free, cruelty-free, nut-free and vegan. Personally, I am concerned about the oil content of any product because I have an oily and pimple-prone skin so I'm glad that this one fits the bill. For those who prefer it, this isn't a  silicone-free product. Here's the ingredients list.

As you can see, my skin is pretty much textured, with pores and dark spots here and there. I chose the problematic side of my face to see how The Ordinary Serum Foundation would hold up. You can see that indeed it renders a light coverage but was able to lessen the reddish areas of my face. My pimples and pimple scars were lightly covered and even my dark circle is noticeably lighter. In real life my skin feels soft to touch and instantly looks brighter and more alive.
For the photo on your left, I only prepped my skin with the Celeteque Acne Solutions Oil Control Toner and Elujai Serum
On the right is my photo after applying two layers of The Ordinary Serum Foundation
My Take
I blindly bought the shade 2.0 YG which is meant for light to medium skin tones with yellow undertones and gold highlights. The mouthful of a description seemed to speak to me and I'm glad that the shade fits me to a T. The big reason why I purchased this because I wanted to try a foundation that doesn't feel heavy and as the description says, it has a "very lightweight serum feel".

As you can deduce from the photo above, the formula is watery, but not too runny. I love applying it with my fingers or with a damp sponge. It applies smoothly and there's no draggy, thick or heavy feeling. Finish is semi-matte. I bet you can also see from my photo that it didn't do well in concealing deep acne scars so if your skin is more on the textured side, this product might not be your best bet. I have huge pores also and I do not blame this product if the pores are visible because I love using a primer for a reason. Even with a powder on top, I start oiling up at around the 2 or 3 hour mark.

For all this talk of this product having a light coverage and not being able to fully conceal my imperfections, I still love it! Wanna know why? Yep, I see the scars, I see the redness, I see the remnants of the dark circles , I see the dark spots, I see the dewiness after a few hours of wear but at the end of the day, I love the glow and the brightness that it brings to my face. I don't look weighed down or haggard or ashy gray after a few hours of wear because some foundations tend to do that.

Would I Buy It Again? Yes! But not at the moment. I would love to try The Ordinary Coverage Foundation just to see the difference in the formulation.
Would I Recommend It? It would depend on your skin type and your preference.

For the look of the day, this is me, sans photo filter or primer, wearing the The Ordinary Serum Foundation in 2.0 YG as base. On the right are the makeup products I used to create this look.
I have enlisted the help of the Clio Kill Cover Highest Wear Pact with SPF 30 PA++ in #6 BO Tan in setting the serum foundation and I know it helped much in lessening the appearance of my pores. These are the other items I used to create this makeup look.
  • The Face Shop Style My Eyebrow in 02 Black Brown
  • Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder in Bronze-03 (my favorite!)
  • Butter London Double Decker Lashes Mascara
  • Kat Von D Lipstick in Underage Red (sampler)
  • Zoeva En Taupe Palette (although it's not so obvious)
  • Eyeshadow brush from Suesh, spoolie and powder brush

XO,
Carissa
The NARS Orgasm Blush's reputation precedes it. So much so that when I saw that this NARS Orgasm Lipstick was on sale, I immediately jumped the gun and ordered. Before long, I had another lipstick to consume. But seeing the NARS logo on the cap is quiet hypnotizing so I don't regret having it in my collection. I love staring at the shimmers on the tube too, I am weird that way. Ha ha!
Here comes the review...

NARS Lipstick
Shade: Orgasm
Price: $ 26.00 or roughly Php 1, 358.00

What is it? What does it do?
A lipstick in a satin finish and creamy formula that provides rich, luminous color for a polished look. It contains a patented blend of conditioners and antioxidants that hydrate, nourish and protect the lips. The shade Orgasm is described as peachy pink with golden shimmer.

Ingredients
HYDROGENATED POLYISOBUTENE · SYNTHETIC WAX · POLYETHYLENE · DIMETHICONE · DICAPRYLYL CARBONATE · BIS-DIGLYCERYL POLYACYLADIPATE-2 · HYDROXYAPATITE · DIISOSTEARYL MALATE · MICROCRYSTALLINE WAX/CERA MICROCRISTALLINA/CIRE MICROCRISTALLINE · HYDROGENATED POLYDECENE · PHYTOSTERYL/OCTYLDODECYL LAUROYL GLUTAMATE · GLYCERYL BEHENATE · SORBITAN SESQUIISOSTEARATE · TOCOPHERYL ACETATE · TOCOPHEROL · PASSIFLORA EDULIS SEED OIL · MORINGA OLEIFERA SEED OIL · CALCIUM STEARATE · SIMETHICONE · ISOPROPYL TITANIUM TRIISOSTEARATE · TIN OXIDE · BHT · PHENOXYETHANOL · FRAGRANCE (PARFUM) · LINALOOL · CITRONELLOL · LIMONENE · [+/- ( MAY CONTAIN): BLUE 1 LAKE (CI 42090) · CARMINE (CI 75470) · IRON OXIDES (CI 77491) · IRON OXIDES (CI 77492) · IRON OXIDES (CI 77499) · MICA · RED 28 LAKE (CI 45410) · RED 33 (CI 17200) · RED 33 LAKE (CI 17200) · RED 6 (CI 15850) · RED 7 LAKE (CI 15850) · TITANIUM DIOXIDE (CI 77891) · YELLOW 5 LAKE (CI 19140)] - www.narscosmetics.com
You can see that the packaging has the word NARS written on the cap. Here's whats written in the bottom part, underneath the lip bullet (photo above).  This is a deluxe sized product so it only contains 1.7 g. Most of the time a prefer a mini or a deluxe sized product because I am rarely able to finish a full sized one. Anyway, based on the photos on the NARS Cosmetics website, it is packaged very similarly to the full-sized NARS Lipstick (rubbery black bullet) albeit for the full-sized one the NARS print is on the lower  part of the lip bullet.

Swatch
Here's the swatch of the NARS Orgasm Lipstick which is described as peachy pink with golden shimmer.

In Action
This shade is really subtle that sometimes I can hardly tell if I put something on my lips. Sometimes I feel like I just put a lip balm with some shimmers because there's barely a hint of color. But when I took this photo to compare my upper lip with NARS Orgasm Lipstick and my bare lower lip, I was like, hey, there really is a very subtle difference.

My Take
A confession here: this is an impulse buy. I wanted to try out the very popular NARS Orgasm Blush  that when I saw the word slapped on this lipstick, I wanted to have it too. I don't have the NARS Orgasm Blush - yet! I am currently on a buying ban, at least until the end of this year because I want to consume all the remaining blushes and lipsticks that I have in my stash. So, laters, Baby. Ha ha!

Another confession (I am so rife with confessions these days!) : I love my lipsticks matte or creamy matte in bold colors that really pop. That being said,  this product does not tick the boxes.

When I first received it, my first instinct is to always sniff it and I love the faint tangy scent. The golden spackles are very visible on the tube and I was afraid that it would look chunky when applied. Fortunately, the shimmers are very tiny that when you apply the lipstick, the shimmers look well embedded and gives off a lovely golden sheen. Unfortunately, my lips are a bit dark so the peachy pink color does not seem obvious and I can only see the golden sheen.

I'll get it straight: this lipstick won't be everyone's cup of tea, especially for me who loves matte and bold. However, I am also moody when it comes to what particular color or formula I want to wear and sometimes I am in the mood for something like this which is light, sheer and with a hint of shimmer. Whenever I wanna cop Kelsey Merritt's bronzy-just-had-a-photo-shoot-in-the-Bahamas look, I reach for my favorite Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder in Bronze -03 (photographed above with the swatch), dust it all over my face and finish off with this NARS Lipstick in Orgasm. And okay, I also wear it even when running errands, when I want to wear something on my lips but don't want him raising an eyebrow. Sometimes, I use it on top of another lipstick so that it won't look washed out on me.

I have no qualms about the texture or the formula. It applies really smoothly and I have never experienced dryness or chapped lips after using it. I love how it doesn't feel slippery on the lips. Being on the sheerer side, the staying power is not that long and lasted about 2 to 3 hours on me.

Nars Orgasm Lipstick Rating: 3/5
Would I Recommend It? No. Ha ha! Let's just hang out and find a dupe, half its price tag.
Would I Buy It Again? I would skip buying this one, I'll put my money on the NARS Orgasm Blush or Liquid Blush instead because it seems to be everyone's favorite.

XO,

Nivea is one of my go-to brands for body care products. They often have BOGO promos so I make sure I'm able to stock up on staples such as deodorants (his and her's) and body lotions. Recently, there's been some update on their facial skin care products and I couldn't resist trying them out because they are quiet affordable and knowing that it's from Nivea, I'm confident about the quality of the products. Check them out after the jump!
*Disclaimer: This is not a paid post. I bought all the products with my own dough. What I've written : cool or uncool, great or not so great, is purely based on my experience. Whatever works for me may not work for you. *

Nivea Acne Clear MicellAIR Cleanser 0% Alcohol
Price: P 99.00, 125 mL
What Is It?
Made for acne-prone skin, with its Advanced Micellar Technology, it deeply cleanses dirt, oil, and even hard-to-remove make up and brings back moisture for clear, baby soft and smooth skin. It also contains Magnolia Bark Extracts that act as an anti-inflammatory agent and which also helps prevent new acne from forming by increasing skin cells resistance to external stresses and inflammation.

My Take
It seems that every skin care brand is jumping on the Micellar Water bandwagon. I'm down for it though. More competition means more innovation and often it brings the prices down too. ;) But of course we have to be critical. Getting cheaper products doesn't always mean getting the best deal because all products have pros and cons.

True to its claims, Nivea MicellAIR Water really feels gentle on the skin but packs a punch when it comes to dirt and makeup removal. There's no stingy or sticky feeling when using it. I've tried other Micellar Waters that do not feel clean enough because I feel that there is residue left by the micellar water itself. Although I prefer washing my face with a foam cleanser after using a micellar water, if it comes to a point where I am too tired or too lazy at the end of the day, I would say that it would be okay for me to not double cleanse because using the Nivea MicellAIR Water already makes my skin feel clean enough. But it's for just such occasions, okay. I still prefer double cleansing. :)
Nivea MicellAIR Water Benefits, Details, Description and Ingredients List
I didn't break out while using this, which is always a plus in my book. It didn't dry out my skin either. My skin does feel soft and smooth after using it. The only hitch that I experienced while using it was that it had a bit of difficulty in removing mascaras. But otherwise, I love this product.

Nivea Daily Essentials Double Effect Eye Make-up Remover
Price: around Php 130.00 for 125 mL; I'm not sure about the price ha, but it wasn't over Php 150.00
What Is It?
A makeup remover specifically formulated for the eye area. It contains cornflower extract and sunflower seed oil and promises to remove waterproof mascara and makeup.

My Take
I may have just been wishful thinking when I said that it would be great if Nivea would also come up with a makeup remover exclusively for the eye area. And voila! Here it is! Unlike the Nivea MicellAIR Water which comes in a clear formula, this one is blue-tinged and you can see where the watery and the oily components meet, or end, depending on how you'd like to view it. LOL. But it's best if you shake it to mix them up.
Nivea  Daily Essentials Eye Make-up Remover Details and Ingredients
I could bore you out with words but instead of doing that, I would just show you a photo comparing the cleaning capabilities of the two products when used in the eye area. On your left it the cotton pad with the Nivea MicellAIR Water and on your right is the cotton pad with the Nivea Eye Make-up Remover. I had a mascara on plus I also smudged some dark eyeshadow. Needless to say, the Nivea Eye Make-up Remover is the clear winner.

Would I buy it again? Yes, but not for the mean time, as I would love to try other eye makeup removers, especially the one from Garnier.

Price: Php 99.00
What is it?

NIVEA Acne Clear Whip Foam 0% Alcohol contains Carnitine which regulates oil production & deeply clears pores and skin. It promises gentle cleansing, for baby soft and smooth skin.
Nivea Acne Clear Caring Whip Foam Details and Ingredients
My Take
What exactly do you look for in a cleanser? It has to be able to do its job of course, which is to take off the dirt and grime at the end of the day. However, I've become wary about trying out facial cleanser ever since I started experiencing some breakouts whenever I try out a new product. Until this day, I still don't know if which one in the ingredients list is making my skin react that way. So I'm always "fingers crossed" whenever I try out a new product, especially a facial cleanser because it's a make or break situation.

To cut the chase, let's just say that the Nivea Acne Clear Whip Foam have made it to my "Facial Cleansers That Do Not Make Me Breakout List". Thank God! What I love to do when using this product is to form a foam first on my hand by mixing it with water and then I just let it lather on my wet face. I love using this after removing my makeup with the two products mentioned above and they really go hand in hand in the cleaning process. By the time I put on my toner, there's barely any dirt left. True to its promise, my skin feels thoroughly cleansed without feeling dry. That's probably the negative aspect about it: my skin feels baby soft and smooth that I can't help but touch it a lot.

Would I recommend it? Yes.
Would I buy it again? Yes.

These are good products indeed and they are all very affordable.
Oh, I'm running low on my MicellAIR Water, I may have to repurchase in a few.
