I hate using this line, but IT'S REALLY BEEN A WHILE!
I slacked through the better part of 2019 and here we are at the start of the second quarter of 2020, seemingly trying to not make it a tradition. 
A month into the lockdown, when things are starting to feel a little calmer (at least here in the Eastern Visayas part), I finally found time to look into the pile of skin care things that I purchased last year. 
I needed to do things to stay off Facebook to stop feeling anxious, hence the decluttering. It also gives me the chance to check out the expiry dates so I would know which ones should I use immediately and which ones should I chuck. 
Hop on as I delve into these things and make a quick comments/reviews.

Where To Buy: Shopee ➧ I was able to use the RYX Skincerity Rejuvenating Set last year and although it didn't turn out to be a bad experience, I must say that I could never get used to the feeling of using something that involves A LOT of peeling. So I purchased this foam cleanser afterwards and I loved it that I decided to get two pieces of 50 mL refills in addition to the full-sized one that I already had. This cleanser is ideal for removing the day's grime, although I always make sure that I double cleanse to fully remove makeup and sunscreen. I love how it gives me a satisfying lather but it doesn't leave my skin feeling dry. It is gel type which I find effective for my oily and pimple prone skin. It contains niacinamide, aloe vera extract, carrot extract, papaine and vitamin B3 among others so it not only nourishes but it also exfoliates the skin. It also has a nice fruity scent. However, it is not readily available locally so I'm not sure if I will be able to repurchase it given the current situation.

Where To Buy: Mercury Drug ➧ I've always recognized the power of Salicylic Acid when it comes to dealing with zits and this is basically the selling point of this product for me. This is an oil-free cleansing gel that purifies and clears skin. It is hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, dermatologist tested, and fragrance free. But I won't say I never get zits when I'm using this ah. Dealing with one's skin is like doing rocket science sometimes; so many factors affect it, sometimes it's the food, sometimes it's hormones, sometimes it's dirt, sometimes it's stress. What's important is that it doesn't go out of hand, and that you are not left with a humongous scar afterwards. Gentle cleansers with acids always help. ;)

It contains Ceramide-3, Niacinamide, Glycerin, and La Roche-Posay Prebiotic Thermal Water which will certainly give the skin some good lovin'.

I do have reservations when it comes to using soap on the face as it can be harsh. I will update this entry in the future. 

➤Empties
I have emptied several facial washes last year such as the Celeteque Hydration Facial Wash and the Celeteque Hydration Gentle Exfoliating Facial Wash, pictured here with my favorite micellar water. I love how simple and mild they are but they work, are very affordable and are always readily available at the local Mercury Drug.
I also used the Safeguard Derma Sense albeit I was not able to take a photo of it. It also contained Salicylic Acid for made it ideal for fighting the pimples however, I just felt that my skin looked dull while I was using it. 😃 Anyways. When it comes to making repurchases, I'm sure I won't hesitate to pick up Celeteque products over and over again.

Alani Sonic Skin Cleanser and Facial Massager

Where To Buy: Kimstore ➧ The Alani Sonic Skin Cleanser and Facial Massager is a cleansing device which is made from safe-for-skin silicone material. It has four brush heads which can be used as cleanser or massager. It is waterproof and rechargeable. It vibrates/pulses upon pressing the power button and it also has buttons for adjusting the strength of the pulses. I have been using mine for nearly a year however, it just stopped working, like it no longer vibrates or sends sonic pulses but it still lights up when plugged to a charger. I dunno what went wrong but anyway, I still use it for cleaning/scrubbing my face even if it no longer has power.

Nivea is one of my go-to brands for body care products. They often have BOGO promos so I make sure I'm able to stock up on staples such as deodorants (his and her's) and body lotions. Recently, there's been some update on their facial skin care products and I couldn't resist trying them out because they are quiet affordable and knowing that it's from Nivea, I'm confident about the quality of the products. Check them out after the jump!

Nivea Acne Clear MicellAIR Cleanser 0% Alcohol

What Is It?
Made for acne-prone skin, with its Advanced Micellar Technology, it deeply cleanses dirt, oil, and even hard-to-remove make up and brings back moisture for clear, baby soft and smooth skin. It also contains Magnolia Bark Extracts that act as an anti-inflammatory agent and which also helps prevent new acne from forming by increasing skin cells resistance to external stresses and inflammation.

My Take
It seems that every skin care brand is jumping on the Micellar Water bandwagon. I'm down for it though. More competition means more innovation and often it brings the prices down too. ;) But of course we have to be critical. Getting cheaper products doesn't always mean getting the best deal because all products have pros and cons. 

True to its claims, Nivea MicellAIR Water really feels gentle on the skin but packs a punch when it comes to dirt and makeup removal. There's no stingy or sticky feeling when using it. I've tried other Micellar Waters that do not feel clean enough because I feel that there is residue left by the micellar water itself. Although I prefer washing my face with a foam cleanser after using a micellar water, if it comes to a point where I am too tired or too lazy at the end of the day, I would say that it would be okay for me to not double cleanse because using the Nivea MicellAIR Water already makes my skin feel clean enough. But it's for just such occasions, okay. I still prefer double cleansing. :)

I didn't break out while using this, which is always a plus in my book. It didn't dry out my skin either. My skin does feel soft and smooth after using it. The only hitch that I experienced while using it was that it had a bit of difficulty in removing mascaras. But otherwise, I love this product.

Nivea Daily Essentials Double Effect Eye Make-up Remover
Price: around Php 130.00 for 125 mL; I'm not sure about the price ha, but it wasn't over Php 150.00
What Is It?
A makeup remover specifically formulated for the eye area. It contains cornflower extract and sunflower seed oil and promises to remove waterproof mascara and makeup.

My Take
I may have just been wishful thinking when I said that it would be great if Nivea would also come up with a makeup remover exclusively for the eye area. And voila! Here it is! Unlike the Nivea MicellAIR Water which comes in a clear formula, this one is blue-tinged and you can see where the watery and the oily components meet, or end, depending on how you'd like to view it. LOL. But it's best if you shake it to mix them up.
Nivea  Daily Essentials Eye Make-up Remover Details and Ingredients
I could bore you out with words but instead of doing that, I would just show you a photo comparing the cleaning capabilities of the two products when used in the eye area. On your left it the cotton pad with the Nivea MicellAIR Water and on your right is the cotton pad with the Nivea Eye Make-up Remover. I had a mascara on plus I also smudged some dark eyeshadow. Needless to say, the Nivea Eye Make-up Remover is the clear winner.

Would I buy it again? Yes, but not for the mean time, as I would love to try other eye makeup removers, especially the one from Garnier.

What is it?
Made for acne-prone skin, this facial cleanser uses Whip Foam Technology & 3x richer moisturizers,. It removes dirt and oil while nourishing the skin for clear, baby soft and smooth skin.

My Take
What exactly do you look for in a cleanser? It has to be able to do its job of course, which is to take off the dirt and grime at the end of the day. However, I've become wary about trying out facial cleanser ever since I started experiencing some breakouts whenever I try out a new product. Until this day, I still don't know if which one in the ingredients list is making my skin react that way. So I'm always "fingers crossed" whenever I try out a new product, especially a facial cleanser because it's a make or break situation. 

To cut the chase, let's just say that the Nivea Acne Clear Whip Foam have made it to my "Facial Cleansers That Do Not Make Me Breakout List". Thank God! What I love to do when using this product is to form a foam first on my hand by mixing it with water and then I just let it lather on my wet face. I love using this after removing my makeup with the two products mentioned above and they really go hand in hand in the cleaning process. By the time I put on my toner, there's barely any dirt left. True to its promise, my skin feels thoroughly cleansed without feeling dry. That's probably the negative aspect about it: my skin feels baby soft and smooth that I can't help but touch it a lot.

I intended to review these products individually but LIFE, as it usually does, got in the way and I got so caught up with other things. Before long, I was faced with tons of beauty products to review. (I still am; doing inventory)😃
But, like I said, I've been trying to get back on my feet and be the blogger me, c 2017. 
Now, I'm glad to report that I have been able to empty these skincare products. 
In my own book, me being able to empty a product means one or all of these three criteria:
a. it didn't break me out (most important)
b. I really loved it (duh)
c. it's expensive (sayang!)
That already says a lot about these three products that I'm about to review but, hear hear! 

Honest Beauty Refreshingly Clean Gel Cleanser
Price: USD 12.99 or around Php 700.00 for 5 oz/148 mL product (www.honestbeauty.com)

Honest Beauty is under the Honest Company which was founded by Actress and Entrepreneur Jessica Alba. Their philosophy is founded on making "safe and effective products that perform". That being said, this cleanser along with their other products are made without Parabens, Latex, Phthalates, Synthetic Fragrances. They are hypoallergenic and not tested on animals.

I'll say this right off the bat - I love this product. It comes in gel form so it's ideal for someone like me who has an oily skin. It is lightly scented, in a way that I can't describe because for me it's not floral or fruity. I'll just call it a clean, soapy scent, if that makes sense. LOL. It feels very gentle on the skin and performs really well in taking of the grime. After cleansing, the skin feels soft and smooth - not the squeaky clean and tight feeling. This is one of those cleansers that not only cleanses but cares. You know, you don't feel stripped of those natural facial oils.

If there's a slight hitch about this product, it's probably that it's not yet locally available. I don't know how much it will cost if it were sold here but $12.99 is pretty reasonable for a 148 mL bottle. Meanwhile, if I wanted something similar to this product in my experience, I would go for the Human Heart Nature Balancing Facial Wash.

Onsaemeein Perfect Moisture-Cream
Price: Php 340.00 for 70 mL (ph.althea.kr)

I bought this late 2017 from Althea and it just took me forever to consume the entire 70 mL jar. I also owe it to the fact that a little goes a long way with this product and I love how it easily spreads and turns into watery substance upon contact with the skin. It's in gel form so it's very lightweight and doesn't feel sticky or oily on  my already oily skin. That is why I love using it as my night moisturizer and I love waking up to a soft and non greasy skin. No kidding. This one never caused any breakouts on me, rather, it has a way of calming down would-be zits.

I also found some interesting facts about this product from Althea. It contains the following key ingredients:
Trehalose - A humectant that attracts moisture to the skin, keeping it hydrated 
Niacinamide - Brightens and clarifies the skin 
Adenosine - Energizes the skin to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles 
Pomegranate extract - Packed with vitamin C and antioxidants for brightening and anti-aging properties

It's very affordable but the glass  packaging is really nice and durable too, you wouldn't feel it's less than Php 500.00. It performs well. What's not to love? This is something that I would love to repurchase.

Fresh Soy Face Cleansing Milk
Price: Php 2, 427.00 for 200 mL (www.sephora.ph)

Okay, the regular price of this one made me fall off my seat. Like, seriously? I got this this travel-sized one from an Instagram seller. It's REALLY fragrant, like I could smell it through even before I opened the package. Since it's my first time to use a cleansing milk, I had to carefully scrutinize the "Directions". I followed the massaging on dry face at the end of the day, purposely to remove my makeup but I can't see myself just tissue-ing it off like the label says because I feel that the milky formula is too sticky for me. There's a slight bit skin tingling that I feel when using it but not to a bothersome level. I prefer washing it off with lukewarm water and it really leaves my skin feeling clean, soft, and supple. However, I only use this as one of my double-cleansing process as I use makeup on a daily basis and I feel that this is not enough to remove all traces of makeup. The packaging does not say if it can't be used around the eye area so sometimes I try to remove my mascara with it and I have observed that it's not really designed for removing something as tough as waterproof mascara.

Overall, I enjoyed using it naman. I think I've been using it since November 2018 (not on a daily basis). As long as a product doesn't break me out I will keep on using it to the last drop, especially if it's as expensive as this. LOL. I loved the luxurious feel and smell (like flowers and a hint of cucumber) on my face. However, I don't see myself purchasing the full sized one because it's as expensive as a sack of rice. 😛 If I feel the need to use a cleansing milk, I'm sure there are far more affordable alternatives in the K Beauty lines.

When I ran out of my Human Heart Nature Gentle Cleansing Oil I knew I had to find a good replacement.
Well, I used to forgo the pre-cleansing step but now that I have reaped the benefits of doing it, I have become more religious. I emptied my 95 ml bottle of HHN Gentle Cleansing Oil after about 7 months. Amazing right? That's a good value for money. I would've wanted to get another bottle of it but then I decided that maybe this is also the perfect time to try out a different kind of cleanser: the Micellar Water.
I've heard a lot of good things about Micellar Water from different beauty bloggers. So how does Micellar Water work? Well, according to  the Huffington Post, Micellar Water is made up of micelles (tiny balls of cleansing oil molecules) suspended in soft water. Micelles are attracted to dirt and oil, so they are able to draw out impurities without drying out the skin. 
  Micellar Waters come in different price points and added benefits. I heard from Ms. Liz Lanuzo of Project Vanity that Garnier's Micellar Cleansing Water is good so I decided to try it out. I picked the blue one because I have oily and acne-prone skin. There's also a pink variety which is for sensitive skin.

What is it?
Garnier touts this as an All-in-One Micellar Cleansing Water that purifies and removes make-up  in one gesture. This one is specially made for oily, acne-prone skin and promises to remove makeup, cleanse and mattify the skin.

I love the ritual of removing makeup as much as I love putting it on and Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water has been a good companion in doing such an activity. Here's my proof: a photo of the cotton pads that I used for cleansing with the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water. It takes about 3 to 4 cotton pads to clean up my face. I love how mild this micellar water is - no stingy feeling, almost like water but it feels a bit slippery (must be the micelles) so that when it comes in contact with your skin, the makeup just seems to melt off. 

This is just a personal preference: even if it says that there is no rinsing required, I prefer to not rely on this Micellar Water alone for cleansing since it doesn't leave a squeaky clean feel. Kinda like there's still something left on my skin so I splash on some water and some foamy cleanser. But on days when I really feel lazy and tired, this works just fine. I have observed though that I had some difficulty removing my mascara with this Micellar Water.

My Take
If you wear makeup on a daily basis, just like me, it would be best if you pick the bigger sized bottle because you win on the price per mL. Unlike cleansing oils which take only small amounts for cleaning the face, with Micellar Water you have to use at least 4 to 5 cotton pads so a 125 mL bottle won't last very long. However, Micellar Waters have short expiry dates after opening. In this case it's only good for 6 months so yep, you better use it while it's good!

Unlike most cleansing oils, there's definitely no greasy feel while using this Garnier Micellar Water. However, I experienced difficulty in removing my mascara with it. For reference, I am using my favorite Maybelline Hypercurl Volum' Express Mascara.

My skin feels fresh and matte but not dry after using it however I am Miss Oiliness so after a while I oil up again. I didn't experience breakouts while using this so for me it means that it did well in removing the makeup (save for the mascara) and other debris from my skin.

This is the first time that I have tried  Micellar Water so I really have no idea about how it compares to other drugstore Micellar Waters such as L'Oreal's or Maybelline's. I hope I would be able to try them out soon so I can make a comparison.

What Is It?
Burt's Bees Deep Cleansing Cream contains Soap bark which deeply cleanses, removing dirt, excess oil, and makeup. It is also formulated with Chamomile and Aloe to gently soften skin. It also has a hint of menthol which gives cooling and soothing properties. It is also 100% natural.

My Take
Is it just me or is there a general notion that a wash-off facial cleanser is supposed to be soapy and sudsy? Well anyway, that was my expectation. This is a cream cleanser and it doesn't foam up when applied on the face. I even checked the 'How To Use' on the Burt's Bees page just in case I was doing it wrongly. :)

So you take a dollop of the product and apply it on your wet face. You massage your face and you work the product through the grime. About a minute or so you wash it off. First things first, it smells really good. If that is how chamomile smells, it's really good. It's a relaxing scent with a hint of menthol. It has a cooling effect on the face. But honestly, I was still looking for the foamy feeling. It really feels like it doesn't clean enough without the foam.

I was surprised when I checked my cotton pad after toning. There's basically very minimal dirt or makeup residue left on the face. It seems that Burt's Bees Soap Bark & Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream really does clean deep. Moreover, my face felt uber soft and smooth, I couldn't help touching it. 

It is priced quiet steeply though, maybe that's one of the negative aspects that I can see about this product. I also feel that maybe this product is not best suited for those who want to get rid of acne or blemishes as it doesn't contain ingredients that will combat those problems. It will be great for those who have dry skin because it really nourishes and moisturizes the skin.

One of the very first products that I ever reviewed on this blog is the St. Ives Apricot Scrub. My twenty one year-old self is forever grateful to that product because it basically stopped one of the biggest breakouts that I've ever had in my entire life.


Fast forward to 2017, I heard about the lawsuits that have been filed against St. Ives. Two women have recently filed a $5 million class-action lawsuit against St. Ives's parent company, Unilever, after claiming the scrub caused irritation due in part to its "sandpaper"-like feel on the skin. The lawsuit also claims the scrub may accelerate the aging process, as the remnants of walnut shells used in the formula can lead to inflammation. Source

That being said, I've become wary of using the St. Ives Apricot Scrub. I'm aware that facial scrubs should be used like 3 times a week for exfoliation but I am guilty of using it everyday, especially if I'm near my monthly period and my skin is acting up. Thankfully I have not experienced any irritation but the claims about accelerating aging process is a cause for alarm. However, my father, who basically uses whatever face cleansing stuff  that we have in the bathroom, kind of over scrubbed with it and it resulted to some inflammation  and skin darkness. Of course he isn't beauty-conscious so he just kind of brushed it off. Imagine if it happened to me though. I would have been horrified.

Anyway, I still want to give other St. Ives products a shot so I picked this Apricot Cleanser instead.

So, before grabbing this I checked the label, specially the ingredients.

Ingredients 
You can see that there are no dreaded walnut shells in the ingredients list. Instead it has korn kernel meal and apricot fruit extracts.

Packaging
This product comes in a huge white squeeze tube that contains 6.5 oz. The flip top cap closes securely and I haven't seen any leaks.

About The Product + In Action
So it promises to gently clean and clean pores with its 100% Natural Extracts. It says that St. Ives is dedicated to bring the best of nature with formulas that delight the senses. Ooh, I love that! It also promises to leave the skin feeling soft and fresh. Well, let's put this one to the test!

Here's how a dollop of  the St. Ives Fresh Skin Apricot Cleanser looks like. It has a creamy consistency. It has some pinkish flecks mixed up in that cream. They serve as the exfoliators and my good guess is that they are the corn meals indicated in the ingredients list. It smells ever so gently of a fruity scent. I've never really seen a real apricot fruit so I don't know if it's an apricot scent. I love the scent because it's not heady nor overwhelming. 


After moistening my face with water, I just applied a pea sized  amount of product and massaged  it over my face. After doing that, I noticed that it didn't bubble up as other facial cleansers would. It feels like using a cream moisturizer for cleanser, only a lot less thicker. However, as I massaged the St. Ives Fresh  Skin Apricot Cleanser on my skin, I felt that the grime was really coming off. I massaged it for like a minute. I also loved the exfoliators because it helped with the cleansing process. After washing it off with water, I noticed that my skin felt clean, soft, and smooth. There's also no tight or dry feeling after washing it off. I noticed though that it doesn't really take off all the dirt because when I use a toner after cleansing, there's still some trace of makeup or dirt.

I know that some girls want their facial cleansers to give a minty or cool feeling after washing off. Unfortunately you won't get that feeling after washing off.
