Up Close
See here. There's nothing really remarkable about how the soap looks like. It's just similar to a bar of Perla. It's just white; there are no fancy marks nor engraves. BTW, I'm sorry if the bar looks small, this is not the actual size. I'd already cut the bar in half when I took this photo. It's 90 grams in weight and it also came with a freebie which is a smaller version of this herbal soap.

My Take
This isn't the first time that I used this product. I may have already consumed like four or 5 of this in the past. And I keep coming back because I like it and my skin likes it. Hiyang ako. It has a light floral-milky scent. I know the horror of having whitening bath soaps that sting and thankfully I have not experienced that with this product. It lathers well and effectively takes off the oiliness of my face and the grime on my skin.

I have no wrinkles yet but it's good to hear that it helps fight aging. I love how soft and smooth my skin feels after using this. It also doesn't dry me up. I have observed also that it causes micro peeling so there's really some exfoliation going on. It also promises to fight bacteria and I'll say that it helps in calming pimples.

There's also a whitening claim and to be honest, I am not someone who is obsessed about whitening. There's a certain color of my skin that I like to maintain: just a balanced tone that doesn't make me look too white. That being said, whenever I feel like I need to lighten up a bit, I reach for this one and yes, it does help in lightening my skin tone. But not the gluta-level na light, ah. Tama lang.

The sample that I got from Sample Room came in the teeny weeny 10g version. It is contained in a white plastic tub with a pink screw cap. The cap closes up well so if you intend to tote around this travel friendly sized cream, you won't have any problems with leaks, etc. So what we have here is basically a moisturizer in a soft cream that promises to brighten and clear up your complexion. It gives a soft dewy finish.

Just a reiteration of what's been stated above, this product promises to reduce dullness, lighten spots, soften and protect from UV rays.

Ingredients

For those who take the ingredients into consideration, yes is has some parabens, phenoxyethanol and butylated hydroxytoluene (bht).

I also Googled some info about the the alpine rose (Rhododendron ferrugineum). So, it is an evergreen cold-resistant shrub with spectacular, bell-shaped pink flowers, which grows at high altitudes in the Alps. The alpine rose can live for more than 100 years and is able to adapt to very challenging environmental conditions such as large variations in temperature, UV and dryness. High contents in various polyphenolic compounds protect the plant tissue against the attack of radicals. Source

Up close, you can see that this cream is pinkish in color. The cream is somewhat mousy in consistency.

Yes, that is me IRL. :) Dullness is real. Add some blemishes and uneven skin tone and we're in for a bad skin day. I was so surprised when I saw the before and after application photos. My skin just looked so radiant and hydrated on the right photo, wouldn't you agree? Let's go beyond the photos and I'm telling you that my skin felt so smooth and soft to touch after application. The smell of the cream is amazing too! I don't know if this is how an Alpine Rose smells but it's a really nice floral scent that wearing it already makes me feel beautiful. It doesn't feel sticky and it easily gets absorbed by the skin. 

The only trouble that I encountered while wearing this was when I started sweating and it sort of felt messy on the face . Actually, after application, my skin felt warmer. Methinks it has some oil content or something of the same property that traps heat in the skin. So I won't suggest using this underneath a liquid foundation, especially if you're an oily gal because it doesn't have oil control properties. Plus it doesn't have a matte finish so its bound to make you look shinier than ever. If I must go out and need some coverage, I prefer topping this with a powder foundation. 

To Sum Up
This product has some wonderful promises to begin with - reduce dullness, lighten spots, soften and protect from UV rays. Does it deliver? Well, based on my experience and looking at these photos, I believe it does great in reducing dullness. My skin felt soft and supple too. When applied consistently and religiously, I believe it will also do great in lightening spots, as I have observed that those nasty marks on my chin were gradually healing and fading while using this. Thankfully, it didn't give me breakouts.

If you have oily skin and prefer a matte finish, maybe you could skip this. However, if you have dry and dull skin, I believe this product would do wonders. Moreover, it has SPF 30 PA+++ which could help protect you against those nasty UV rays. It's also quiet affordable and easily accessible at local drugstores and department stores nationwide.

I'll never tire of trying out products from Sample Room, especially if it will allow me to discover or try for the first time some wonderful and proudly Filipino products. Today, our spotlight is on Silka. Of course, Silka products have been around for like, forever. But the ones I have tried are the older variants; their Papaya Soap (Orange colored) is a recurrent favorite in our household. This time though, I got to try a new variant of their lotion and soap, this one has Shea Butter.


Shea butter is an off-white or ivory-colored fat extracted from the nut of the African shea tree (Vitellaria paradoxa). Shea butter is a triglyceride (fat) derived mainly from stearic acid and oleic acid. It is widely used in cosmetics as a moisturizer, salve or lotion. Silka Skin Whitening Lotion With Shea Butter Ingredients
Let me just say how much I love the scent of this lotion. Indeed it smells like a combination of coconut and butter; a very delectable and sweet scent. I also love the thickness and the richness of this lotion, and  skin feels truly moisturized and soft with continued use. It also doesn't feel greasy and icky, despite it's rich and thick consistency. Having an SPF 23 content is also a big plus given this country's sunny weather. It also has another big promise though: the whitening factor, which the brand says comes in just seven days. I cannot vouch for that since whitening isn't really something that I look for in products. I'm happy with just moisturization and sun protection.

Silka Skin Whitening Soap With Shea Butter Ingredients
Silka soaps really smell great, especially the Green Papaya one. This Skin Whitening Soap with Shea Butter smells just like its lotion variant. This one goes well with the lotion because if you use the soap alone, it could be drying. My partner (a guy that he is) swears by Silka Papaya soaps for its whitening and smoothing capabilities. That's very Piola Pascual of him, huh? LOL. I think he would also like this soap just the same because my skin feels smoother, and yes fairer, after using this soap.

I got me another package from Sample Room - the Philippine's first ever beauty and lifestyle sampling website. As always, it's nice to be able to get something from the mail. Ooooh! But before anything else, I'd like to say that this is the first time that I experienced delays in shipping with SR. At first I attributed it to the crazy rainy weather in the NCR at the beginning of August. But when three weeks has passed and my order still has not arrived, I knew I had to follow up. It turned out that my package was lost and all that but they acted quickly about it and it no time, these hefty babies arrived. And I'm not the type who gets put off with minor hitches. So no worries Sample Room. No love is lost. Now on to the quick reviews. ;)

Palmolive Naturals is probably a brand that we Filipinos have been familiar with since forever! The earliest memory that I have of using a Palmolive Naturals product goes back to my second year in grade school - that would have been 1995! I shampooed with it, I just forgot the variant though, haha! The Palmolive Naturals that we have today has been repackaged overtime and is endorsed by some of the most popular Pinay actresses. I got excited when I saw this bundle on Sample Room. It's great to be able to try the shampoo and conditioner variants because in general, related products are compatible and work better together.

I have this dry and frizzy hair so I thought this Intensive Moisture variant would be perfect for me. It has Coco Cream and Milk Protein extracts for keeping the hair hydrated. I love how this shampoo and conditioner combo smells and how the scent lasts throughout the day. True enough it didn't make my hair feel dry or sticky. My hair felt soft and bouncy. It couldn't do anything about keeping my hair smooth though. I just have this naturally 'buhaghag' hair and I have accepted that fact a long time ago. Haha!

These two lotions from SkinWhite are truly a delight to use! In fact, I may have become a SkinWhite convert now! The Classic Whitening Lotion SPF 10 with Light Feel Technology caters to those who want a light weight lotion that gets easily absorbed by the skin. Having a lower SPF content, I prefer using this on days that I would just be staying indoors or when the sun isn't sooooo hot . The Advanced Whitening Lotion with SPF20 on the other hand has a richer and thicker formula but what I love about it is that it doesn't feel heavy or greasy. It is also easily absorbed by the skin. They are both very moisturizing and leaves the skin soft to touch. I wouldn't want to choose, I love having them both! ;)

The one on the left is the Light Feel lotion and you probably noticed that it is watery. It doesn't feel uncomfortable though when you put it on your skin. On the right is the Advanced Whitening Lotion; that's a creamy and thick formula minus the greasy feel.

There ya have it. The the total amount of the loot  is Php 387.20 but they all came free so I only paid Php 180.00 for the shipping. Amazing, ain't it?! They all came in full size, so I didn't have to shop for shampoo, conditioner and lotion. I'm one happy consumer. Plus I discovered  the gem that is SkinWhite. Sample Room truly gives every Filipina the "Try Before You Buy" advantage. Thank Sample Room!

There's a multitude of skin whitening lotions in the grocery aisles that you can literally drown in them. LOL. But what sets this one apart? The 4X whitening action comes from Glutathione, Vitamin C, Kojic Acid and Azelaoyl Diglycinate. I'm all familiar with the first 3 ingredients but it's probably the first time that I've heard of Azelaoyl Diglycinate. I Googled it and here's the link of a little info about the said component. In my opinion, I think that this one feels rather heavy and greasy on the skin. I'm also not a big fan of its scent. I live in a tropical country and I'm thankful for the SPF 30 content. For the whitening capabilities, I can't really make a sound comment because I am constantly outdoors and if I happen to apply whitening stuff on my skin, I'm pretty sure it won't really work because I am always out an about. I noticed though that upon application, it doesn't easily get absorbed by the skin. You can see on the photo below that when you put it on and you try to blend it, it just sits on your skin for a while. That is why I think that it's heavy on the skin. I noticed too that the container seemed so big, but the content was not that plenty.

To buy or not to buy? 
I think NO. Like I said, there are lots and lots of whitening lotions in the market and I didn't see any reason for this one to be a standout.

Oil controlling and mattifying products are heaven-sent. I particularly need it because I am such a grease ball. I remember how back in high school I and my classmates would always have a stash of Johnson and Johnson Baby Powders to keep the shine at bay. When I saw this powder, I thought about how wonderful this is. This powder does control oils and at the end of the day, my T-Zone is practically shine-free. The only bad probably is that since it is a white powder, it could make you look pale, almost vampiric, LOL. That and the powdery scent which I also don't like. Happy too that it has a sunscreen and that it didn't make me break out.

To buy or not to buy?
I think YES! If ever I would need a powder for my face, something that I can wear while running errands, I'll have this one because of the added benefits.

There you have it. Like I said, it's always a pleasure to be able to try new products, especially the ones that I can't easily find in the stores here in the province. For if ever I do get to Watsons or other beauty counters, I would know which products to get and which ones to steer clear of. ;)

This product does sting the skin a bit upon using which I guess is due to the acids doing their part in the whitening process. But other than that, I didn't experience any irritation whatsoever. I can compare this from the previous version and the exfoliating lemon stuff is a nice upgrade.

Leave it to Belo to always have something for us Pinays in the whitening department. Not so long ago I wished for a BB Cream and now they have it, with SPF 50 no less. In truth, I am not one of those so obsessed with skin whitening. I am more after on the sun protecting capacity of  a product. But if you can hit 2 birds with one stone, why not, ayt?
