Tryin' To Rock The Pink Matte with Avon Perfectly Matte Lipstick in Pure Pink: Review and Swatch

How do we even begin to explain the popularity of Avon in the Philippines?  Of course it is a popular brand the world over, but here in our country... it's the stuff that we've seen our mothers, grandmothers and their amigas using while we were growing up. It's also the first lipstick brand I owned while I was in college. Yung inutang ko pa sa classmate ko tapos one month to pay. He he. Well, here we are, I've been a huge fan of cosmetics back then as I still am now. Once upon a time though glossy lipsticks were more popular than matte but now, there's been a shakeup and matte is just everywhere.

Have I found my matte-ch in this matte pink from Avon?
I think I've reviewed one Avon matte lippie a long time ago, one that was called Ultra Color Matte and here's the link. Right now though, the name is Perfectly Matte so I assume it's different or that they have reformulated. Anyway, like I said it was ages ago and I don't have the old Ultra Color Matte anymore so I won't be able to make a comparison of the two. I'll just deal with the one on hand: The Perfectly Matte Lipstick in Pure Pink.

So how did this experience turn out? More after the jump.

First look.
Price: Php 399.00 (and it came with a free Ideal Oil Control Pressed Powder)
Where I Got It: from An Avon Lady

Perfectly Matte Lipstick - P002 Pure Pink
My Take
The color may seem on the warmer side on this photo but when applied looks pale on my lips. Upon application, it doesn't easily blend, it's like it just sits on top of your lips. It feels powdery, too. Uh oh. :( It also settles into the lines of the lips, as you can see on the photo below. On the plus side, it has a sweet gentle smell which I adore.

*So why on earth is it on my July 2016 Favorites if it brews a lot of trouble?*

Silly. It's because I've found a way to 'fix' it. And ever since I've learned how to fix it, I've been using it almost every single day that I go to work. I use a lip balm underneath (Human Nature Tinted Lip Balm in Pink Orchid) or use a lip gloss on top (Burt's Bees Lip Gloss in Rosy Dawn). Or yes, I use both at the same time.

I quote Bobbi Brown in one of her books which says to never buy a lipstick product that you have to 'fix' in order to work and I keep that in mind all the time. On impulse though I ordered this because it looked good on the brochure. At least my bucks aren't going down the drain because I'll be using this one to the last bits.

Swatch under natural light.

*Tips*
I ain't naive and I am aware that matte lippies aren't the most comfortable to wear. Nothing new about this one being dry on the lips. So exfoliate your lips or do other tricks like slathering your fave lip balm overnight and wiping it off the next day with soft cloth soaked in lukewarm water. That'll help a lot.

On the lips: Top- Natural lighting; Bottom - With Flash
For now, if there's anything that I learned about this experience, it would be that I would buy more mattes in darker colors. I think I would be able to rock it better. And that's just life doing its daily grind. We are all unique; not everything that looks great with someone else will work for yourself. I love pink; it's one of those colors that instantly prettify me. But I'll go for glossy pink instead of matte pink. Ha ha.

XO,

Carissa

P.S.
The Ideal Oil Control Pressed Powder that came free with this lipstick was wonderful. :)
