Review and Swatch: Avon Ultra Color Matte Lipstick in Matte Fuchsia
I'll admit that I'm a bit scared of wearing bright pinks such as fuchsia or magenta, especially in matte formula. I've always associated it with being too bright or that it can make your teeth look yellow. That being said, I know that I won't buy something of this color on my own account. I got hold of this product because my mother gave it to me. So, did it work for me? I'll tell you after the jump! :)
My mother got this product through Avon's promo where if you get two matte lipsticks, you will be given an additional pressed powder for free. Cool deal huh? So she availed of it right on. The other liptick she got was in a shade called Merlot, which is a red wine shade. It looks lovely on her because of her fair skin.
Product Name: Avon Ultra Color Matte Lipstick
Shade : M04 or Matte Fuchsia
Net Wt: 3.6g

Impressions
Packaging - It comes in a simple black tube that has cover with a transparent top so it allows you to see the color inside without opening it.Scent - It has a very faint sweet scent which is not overwhelming - I love it!
Color - It's a bright fuchsia with bluish undertones.

It's in matte formula so I wasn't surprised when it dried my lips a bit. That being said, exfoliation is important prior to wearing it so you won't see patches of flaky stuff in your lips. You can also wear a lip balm underneath it for added protection.
Did it work for me? It's different for every girl, if a product works or not so I'll try to explain in my simple terms. A lip product works if just one swipe brightens up your face and makes you pretty and confident. Unfortunately, it wasn't love at first swipe with this lipstick. It looked flat on me. But I wasn't about to give up just yet. I tried layering it with a lip balm: my EOS sphere lip balm in particular and that made a difference. It felt smoother and the color became a bit more forgiving.
I tried another trick. I layered it with lipgloss and I'm glad I did because it made my lips look more alive and hydrated.
Swatch
This swatch looks more on the bluish or violet side but in real life it's a bit more pinkish.

The formula dried my lips up and the color wsn't just my match. But thanks to this, I get a little bit more creative on trying to make the product work for me.
Repurchase?
No. Maybe fairer skinned girls would dig this. I'll just try my luck with other products that won't rely on other products to make it work. And maybe not fuchsia. :)
Last Look
After putting lip balm underneath, the final product looked lovely on photo. :)
Fuchsia is a bright color for me. But some other ladies would love this color. Personally, this is something that I would not wear very often. Maybe I could wear this on those gloomy days where I need a pop of color. Or those days that I want to wear fuchsia just for the heck of it. :) Anyway, as a final word, Avon's color selection for this matte line is very limited, I think there's only like 6 in it. And it's competing directly with very affordable, popular, well established and well formulated matte lipsticks such as NYX (which has many colors to choose from!) and Wet N Wild (also has lots of colors, good staying power etc.). NYX and WnW are like heavy weights in this category, ready to give the knockout punch. But that leaves us ladies with so much options to choose from: so let's keep our eyes open. Ayt? Ayt!
XO,
Cassie
