If everything were up to me, whenever December the 13th, my birthday, comes around the corner, I'd rather celebrate it tucked in my room, buried in fries and burgers, watching another war movie with the husband.

But alas! That same date also happens to be the birthday of my scrumptious Celestine and what are children's birthdays for, if not for celebrating.

So the recluse Mummy had no choice but to get up and about to make her unica hija's wish come true.

Where are we off to? The beach is it?

Yep, the beach. She has told us like a year ago that she would want to celebrate her 7th swimming so here we are.

First of all, the Frozen-themed cake is kinda off since we're surrounded by sand and sea. We should've gunned for The Little Mermaid but she's not hearing it. See?

But it doesn't matter to her, really. Food doesn't matter because nothing it more important than swimming with the friends. It is your moment, after all, baby girl. So live it!

The two Tin-Tins. They are frenemies. Who would know?

For brief moments she would get out of the water; the only chance we had to take this family photo. However, what's more important is that she had fun. It's evident in her skin color afterwards. 😉 We had an advanced celebration on the 9th of December. We're lucky that the sun came out that day. Our birthday histories are very much riddled with typhoon and flood stories. Ha ha ha. And there's a lot more to be thankful for than just the weather. So many little things that make up the big things.

The Magical Seventh

Because baby was looking lovely today. :)

Thank you uncle IJ for the dress! Celestine had been so excited to wear it for the longest time.

The metallic pink sandals and over-sized bow headband were her choice of accessories. I would've picked a different footwear or hair accessory but once Celestine makes her sartorial choice, it's usually difficult to sway her. So here we are. :)

Fortunately, she wore the dress, instead of the dress wearing her.

For what's a wonderful day with a wonderful dress if you can't spend it with your friends?

Or maybe someone else is more excited to open the gift?

The party ended quiet early though. We owe it a day-long power outage. Otherwise, the kids (and moms) would have been gyrating to Despacito until 12 noon. But that didn't happen. Instead, Celestine and I found ourselves heading to the Gabaldon Ruins which is located inside the Allen Central Elementary School.

The 'Ruins' is one of the known landmarks of Allen. It is located on a hillside of Celestine's school. I'm usually out of breath by the time I reach the top whenever I accompany her to school. But lately, she's been insisting on climbing up all by herself.

I was a bit of a history junkee when I was still in school so I love being around this kind of stuff. No, I am not at all spooked. I see beauty here. Cracked pillars and moldy walls can only tell so much.

The abundance of giant trees also bring some fresh air to the area. To be honest, it's like being in a different world when you climb up to the ruins.

PS. She's dedicated to wearing the whole outfit. The giant headband stayed on. Didn't complain about the giant skirt. Wore heels while climbing up the hills. Phew!

Celestine's Christmas Party + An Insta Photoshoot At School :)

Because baby was looking lovely today. :) Thank you uncle IJ for the dress! Celestine had been so excited to wear it for the longest time...

Featuring my baby girl, of course. Because she is my favorite subject. :)

She was just as thrilled as I was to be able to take in some fresh air and be surrounded by a good amount of greens.

We also took time to explore the inhabitants if this forest. She's always curious, full of questions. I had to ask her more than a few times to keep it down a little. Kids are great companions; you will never get bored.

As for me, you know I've read Paolo Coelho's Brida and I just recall scenes from that book whenever I end up in a forest. Anyway.

Little Critters :)

Sure, the forest is filled with some creepy crawlies both friendly and not. However, my lens weren't quick enough for them. Too bad. I just happened to catch this one and I don't even know its name. It's a bug, I guess. It has a bluish-gray body with six orange colored legs. Quiet pretty.

Plants, Trees and Wild flowers
My daughter has always been in awe of this very responsive and sensitive plant. And why not?

The shy plant. Makahiya or mimosa.

I also introduced her to our national leaf: the Anahaw. Well, we found a fallen one and she turned it into an umbrella.

Coconuts are in abundance here but you have to meet the Pili tree. :) It's the source of our beloved pili candies and brittle. But getting the nut doesn't come easy, as you can see. The tree is uber tall and kinda hard to climb. And that's just the start of it because the nut is kinda hard to crack. Phew!

Some would prefer to call these as weeds but they add beauty too by breaking the monotony of greens. Just like the little bug earlier, I don't know what too call them too. :) Don't they look pretty?

In Photos: Random Shots While Lurking At The Forest

We recently ended up at Maria's Kitchen one lazy afternoon, since we were looking for a place to chill out and to get our tummies filled. We is me, my husband and our daughter. Maria's Kitchen is one of the popular food spots in our town. While waiting for our orders, I kept myself busy by taking random snaps inside the place. Blogger duties, ayt?

Anyway, if I may describe the setting at Maria's Kitchen, I'd say it feels very homey. It's literally a home too, anyway, because it is located inside the compound of the owner's home. The garden, to be exact. The structures are a mixture of old and new; wood and metal and other knickknacks. You see old photos and books, figurines and other old things which had been re-purposed. Even the broken umbrellas and peeling off paints seem to just blend in well.

Anyway, one of the things that I love about this place is the presence of greens which keeps the whole place looking clean and fresh. Let's check out the photos after the jump.

Celestine also busied herself with her own thing, perusing the swing, slide, and seesaw. I kept running after her but decided to give up because we can't stop her from being a child. Can we now?

Pretty ingenious, huh? Yes, that's a faucet and it works.

This here is one of the eye-catching stuff at Maria's Kitchen. Celestine couldn't help keep coming back to it.

Like I said, this place has an abundance of trees, plants and foliage. I noticed this heart-shaped plant and then I realized that there are plenty of these scattered around the area.

The Food

It's a bummer that I failed to take photos of the menu. But fret not, I think I can recount the lineup and the prices from my mind. The menu is composed of burgers, sandwiches and desserts. The burger's prices start at Php 99.00. This here, is the most expensive one which comes at Php 139.00. It's called the Maria's Overload and it's huge. I knew that I won't be able to consume it all by myself so I didn't bother ordering another one for my hubby. Sharing the calories is caring, dahlings. :) Meanwhile, our daughter only wanted fries, so she gladly gobbled the whole plate of.

Maria's Overload//Price: Php 139.00

Sandwiches are priced at about Php 50.00 to Php 70.00 while the fries are Php 25.00. A pitcher of their chilled juices cost Php 50.00, and it's good for three people. I think their desserts are priced no more than Php 100.00. Pretty affordable, huh.

Maria's Kitchen is located at Bahay ni Jose, Pascual B. Gutay St., Brgy. Sabang 2, Allen, Northern Samar, right across St. Francis College.
