Mommy Diaries: Celestine Meets Dora and Boots
Ten years ago it would have been me queuing for a Bamboo concert. Now I’m the tag-along mom waiting in line with my daughter as she was about to witness something larger-than-life. Literally. (^_^)
Last April we bonded during a meet-and-greet with Dora and Boots at Robinsons Place Tacloban. I realized that even after all of these years, there’s still a little kid inside of me. Or maybe I was just so happy to see my daughter happy.
We were like 10th in line so it was obvious that we wanted to be there front and center. I actually thought moms wouldn't be allowed inside the barricaded area for the activity, but we were allowed in. So there I was, snap happy and excited to see how my daughter would react when she sees Dora and Boots.

Here’s the thing: I actually thought that the kids would all go crazy once they see Dora and Boots. However, when they took center stage, there was a collective quietness which obviously emanated from the kids’ shock that Dora and Boots were not pint-sized little kids such as they but were giants.
Later on, as the kids warmed up to them, I saw my own Tin waving at Boots who was rolling on the floor. I was glad that each kid was given a chance to have a photo op with Dora and Boots. However long the queue was, however reserved she behaved when it was her turn to stand with her idols, the twinkle in her eyes were unmistakable for happiness.
For all I know, her inner self was doing somersaults as Dora and Boots came to life. When we spoke at night, she confided that she was surprised that Dora and Boots were giants and that they had big eyes and all that. Oh well, kids. ;)
I'm happy that she feels that she has a personal connection with Dora and Boots and that she's proud that she finally 'met' them. This would be something we would look back on together when she grows up and she outgrows those bangs and leggings and sparkly shoes.
XO,
Mommy Cass
